Acer Liquid A1(S100)- FCC Approval Sending it To AT&T? PLUS: More on the Way?

Is The US Finally Getting Its Wish?

acer_liquid_front_small
Still No Guarantee…
Even though the recent FCC approval of the Acer Liquid A1 for the 800 Mhz and 1900Mhz HSDPA version of the Android smartphone would point all indications to AT&T as a carrier for it, there is still no official guarantee the company will be. As a matter of fact, there is no official guarantee in place saying the Liquid A1 is coming to the US at all! Well, Wishful thinking and law of attraction folks! Power of the people! Lets all hope and pray that it makes it here cause I might actually spring for a new phone if it does…

The Acer Liquid A1 smartphone is a beauty of a phone with all the standard features plus a few that drive us all wild. The Qualcomm QSD 8250 Snapdragon 1 ghzCPU (at 768 MHz) processor is one of them that make us crazy for it. The 3.5″ WVGA 800×480 capacitive touchscreen, 5 megapixel camera with auto focus, 256mb SDRAM, 512 Flash ROM, Bluetooth 2.0 EDR, 3.5mm headphone jack, a built in GPS receiver for location services, a digital compass and a G-sensor and light sensor. The Acer Liquid A1 is the first of the Acer phones to have the Android Operating System and is running he 1.6 cupcake version of it. And it certainly will not be the last of them.

10 More on Their Way
With yesterday’s release of the Liquid A1 in Taiwan and the day before in Hong King, it’s given the makers of the Liquid a preview of how the Android phones will be received, should they want to introduce new ones. And that’s exactly what hey are going to do in the first half of 2010, release maybe 6 new Acer Android based smartphones. One for each price range, and will be marketed towards businesses and consumers alike.

In this case, it looks like what was once a Windows loyal company, it would appear that Acer is leaving them in the dust. And why wouldn’t they? Windows Mobile 6.5 hasn’t been all the great of an update and everyone is already wishing the version 78 of Windows Mobile would hurry up and get completely developed and released already.

LG Is Getting Smarter By the Day-The IQ (AKA The Monaco) Is On the Loose!

Coming Soon to Canada

LG IQ aka Monaco

LG IQ aka Monaco

That’s right folks, LG is adding to their collection of smartphones with the smarter LG IQ, also known as the Monaco and although it was once thought the IQ would be debuted in the US, we were all wrong. Apparently Telus has picked up this pretty little smartphone by LG and brought it to Canada for it’s premier debut. And although it was also rumored to be the very first WinMo 7 phone, when it was “leaked by accident” on AT&T’s site by an employee (who apparently can’t spell) it proves to be untrue as well. The LG IQ will be sporting the well known WinMo 6.5. It’s ok, though, there are so many other better features that will make up for that point.

For example, it will have the much talked about and used SnapDragon 1ghz processor, a 3.2” WVGA touch screen display, 400×800 resolution, GPS and a 5 megapixel camera. The one feature that this phone has that makes it stand out from all the rest is the fingerprint scanner. There are videos of it in action at Engadget.com.

What’s The Verdict?
This is a really nice follow to the other LG phones on the market. I just wish AT&T would have grabbed it like they were supposed to. And I must say I am glad they decided not to use WinMo 7, I mean come on… WinMo 6.5 is still hot off the presses and they are already pushing another update? If they were going to try to push 7 out so soon, they should have just waited to do it and never release 6.5 in the first place. It makes no sense to me at all, except they were getting a little scared about al the Droid phones on the loose… That makes sense…..

Samsung’s Omnia II to Be Scooped Up By Verizon

PLUS-Kyocera’s Incognito Launch Date with Sprint Announced

What’s the Deal With The Omnia II?
The Omnia II originally released in Canada with Bell, the official wireless provider for the up and coming 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, last month. But now, Verizon has decided to scoop it up for an official US release and a hopeful date of December 2nd. The handsets will be available everywhere, online and in stores.omnia-II

What’s Under the Hood of the Omnia II?
To start, it sports the largest of the MVGA AMOLED touchscreens, at 3.7″ and the video quality is said to be of DVD standards at 480p. The camera is 5 megapixel and the handset also sports most of the usual culprits like Bluetooth 2.0, GPS, a-GPS, accelerators, and can run apps such as Office and Excel. As for internal memory, it has built in 8GB and an microSD slot for expandable storage up to 32GB. It was rumored the Omnia II would be running the WinMo 6.1, but that’s been tabled since the release of 6.5, and the Omnia II will be running the WinMo 6.5 Professional platform and it also has TouchWiz 2.0. As usual, there is a 2 year contract and a $100 mail-in rebate making the price(after rebate and contract) $199.99Bell’s Omnia has an extra built right into it. Because it is an official sponsor of the Winter Games 2010, it includes WOW, or Winter Olympics Works, a communication and news system geared solely towards the Olympics, at no extra charge.

What’s the Deal With the Incognito?
Sprint has decided to pick up Kyocera’s Incognito, just in time for the holiday’s and will be launching it officially on November 30, online only. In-Outlet sales are expected to begin on December 6th. This cute little clamshell of a phone has a 2.6″ OLED display with 320×240 resolution, a 2 megapixel camera, and the revealing full QWERTY keypad is haptic, letting you know when you have pressed a button correctly, and it glows, for emailing and messaging in dark or badly lit areas. The phone is 3G ready running on a EVDO network and comes complete with the major social networking site applications built in and ready to go. New service for this phone will cost just $50 after a $50 mail in rebate ad, of course, the required 2 year contract. sprint-kyocera-incognitojpg

And The Verdict Is
I personally can’t wait for the Omnia II to hit. It’s about time the US gets another really good phone released here that is actually worth the price (and is not an iPhone). As for teh Kyocera, I think the incognito, with a price like that should have been picked up by Metro PCS, or Cricket maybe…

But then again, you don’t really hear about Kyocera as being a great phone BECAUSE it is linked with those carriers. No one wants to talk about them because they are not high end. I just wish these dealers would give up the contract thing, I mean are the phones really worth that much with out a contract? I don’t think so. As they are being released within a few days from each other I think the Omnia II will win this race out. It is a Smartphone, after all and Kyocera doesn’t really get too much attention because this particular model is a clamshell, not a Smartphone like the Omnia II.

What do you all think? Comment and let us know and why…

Dell’s Position on the Smartphone World… “Lets try This Again”

Dell to Release their first Smartphones in Brazil and China

What’s the deal?
Well, it’s no surprise that Dell is offering up a smartphone to its massive and mostly impressive collection of electronics. But what is surprising is this is the second time they are doing it. Earlier in the year, according to PC World back in a May post, the initial project was canceled due to “Lack of interest from carriers.” So they are apparently going to try it again with the release of the “Dell Mini 3.” They are releasing it first in China, through China Mobile, later this month and then in Brazil, with Claro, in the end of December. It is directly because of this lack of interest they have o plans as of yet to release in the US Not to say they won’t, just not until at least the middle or end of 2010, again according to PC World.

Dell Mini 3

Dell Mini 3

What’s Under the Hood?
Not too much is known about the Mini 3 as of yet, but I can tell you that it has a 3.5″ display with 360×640 resolution and in China it’s mobile OS will be based on the oPhone OS which is a variation on Google’s Android platform. All that is known about the phone for Brazil is that it will be based on the Android platform as well, but there are no actual specs as of yet. Dell claims it will “…offer flexibility and customization” of the smartphone, to all involved.

And the Verdict Is?
Again, another Smartphone that will not make it to the US. At least for another year or so. But this time, I really can’t blame them. The US is a very competitive market and if one of the bigger companies don’t pick it up right away, like Verizon or AT&T, it most likely won’t make it here. And until we can get some real specs on it, I really can’t say one way or the other which way you should go with it. So, when I do get some specs, I will update them here and until then-good luck finding one!

Fujitsu’s Keitai F-O4B- The Splitting Phone

But Don’t Get Your Hopes Up…

Yet Another Japan Only release
That’s right. This phone will most likely only be seen in Japan. The prototype was released last year at “DoCoMo’s booth during the last CEATEC 2008,” according to Akihabura News in Japan, and now, at a press conference in Roppongi. It is the infamous splitting phone called the Keitai F-o4b and is made by Fujitsu.

Fujitsu Keitai F-o4b-compliments of Akihabura

Fujitsu Keitai F-o4b-compliments of Akihabura

What’s Under the Hood?
This Smartphone is just about the same as any other Smartphone on the market. It has a 12 Megapixel camera, QWERTY keyboard, 3.4″ LCD Touchscreen, can send email, play music, watch TV and also does just about anything else a Smartphone does. The difference here is that the phone splits into two halves. On the one half, with the touchscreen, you can listen to music, watch TV, send email and so on. Ont eh other, the QWERTY, it has a microphone, acts as a speaker device, and a gaming pad.

What makes this phone unique is, not only does it split in two, but it also has a projector. What happens is in pace of the QWERTY keyboard, you attach the optional projector and it can project the movies and such onto anything. It is 6 Lumens at its brightest and uses an 800 mAh battery which has a life span of two hours at it’s brightest, and much longer if you choose to set it a bit dimmer.

Also under the hood is a Texas Instruments second generation DLP Pico chipset and provides for a resolution of 854×480. The most awesome part of the projector process? the QWERTY keyboard is turned into a remote to control it! Go ahead all you remote control freaks-Go get you one of these phones! But wait! Only if you live i Japan.

And the Verdict Is?
Is the rest of the world not cool enough? I don’t know about all of you, but I am starting to get really offended at all the phones being released that aren’t available in the US… Why should the rest of the world have so may cool toys to play with and not us?

Anyway, I think this is the best freaky phone ever to hit the market. Talk about multi tasking. Not only can you email and such, but for all you power users, you can now show your presentations right on any wall. I think this phone needs to be adapted into all the other countries. Maybe Verizon should jump on it now they have the Android OS to work with…

Introducing the First-The One and Only- iPhone Worm!

And Apple Thought They Wouldn’t Have to Worry About It

What’s The Deal?
The iPhone, Most people thought, including Apple, it wasn’t vulnerable to a virus and such. I guess they were thinking cause it was made by Apple, no one would want to. Apparently they were wrong, to a point. The first worm hit the popular Smartphone yesterday, November 9th. But here’s the thing-it only affects Jailbroken iPhones. So, if you did the right thing and left your phone alone, you have nothing to worry about The security is fine. But, if you decided to modify it in any way and happened to install SSH, a remote log-in device, and live in Australia (for now) you are probably screwed.

You see, after installing the SSH app, if you don’t change the default password, it’s like “installing a new front door and leaving the keys dangling outside” for all the world to see, according to PC World. And you know why the worm’s creator did it? 21 year old Ashley Towns, from Australia said she was bored and was curious what would happen. Well, at least he’s not into drugs, right?

So What Will Happen Now?
Well, even though the worm, which replaces the user’s wallpaper with one of Rick Astley and the phrase “Ikee is never going to give you up!” was not meant to harm anyone’s phone and the intent behind the worm goes back to the original days of hacking when the hackers were not trying to be malicious in anyway-They just want to have fun-It does point to another matter entirely. It shows that nothing, not even a phone, is safe from a computer virus.

And the Verdict Is?
first, I think this goes to show that Jailbroken phones need an antivirus program. In fact, not this happened, I wonder how long it’s gonna take for someone to develop a mobile version of an antivirus program. Even if Ashley broke some laws by accident, there is one thing for sure. He is going to make someone very very rich in the long run…

Sony Ericsson Finally Graces India With Its Presence-With 3 New (Really Awesome) Smartphones

What’s the Deal?
Well, 3 new phones are released in India by Sony Ericsson. They are the Satio, Aino and Yari. And, they have to be the greatest smartphones available. Not because of the OS, but because of the specific features on each phone. According to Anil Sethi, president of Sony Ericsson Mobile India, these phones will “…set the trend for the new age smartphones.,” and she also said “…Once the 3G spectrum allocation happens, we can roll out more features with better network.” So does that mean that the Indian people can’t use them yet? No, it doesn’t. It just means that they have limited service and features.

What DO They Have Then?
Well, they each have their own respective features. The Satio is the greatest for photography with its 12.1 megapixel camera. It also has a 3.5″ screen with 16:9 wide screen format. What kind of OS does it have? Who cares? It’s got a 12 megapixel camera!

And the Aino has almost just as great of a camera at 8 megapixel. And the feature of thsi phone that stands it apart from the other two is that is cn access information stored on a PS3 from anywhere, as long as there is Wi-Fi service available. It has remote play access to all media as well.

The Yari is the last of the bunch with only a 5 megapixel camera. But it’s feature that sets it apart is that is can play games without touching the screen by allowing the moves to be made in front of it. Interesting… I wonder how they do it…

What’s The Verdict?
It has been a long time coming for India and they definitely deserve these phones. And I think that India should stop putting off the allocation and get on with the extra features already. I mean, they already have so many awesome features, but think about it… More to come. What else can there be? X-Ray vision? Money printer? Damn… A 12 Megapixel camera… Oh well, The Holidays are coming anyway.

Andriod 2.0 is Official-HTC About to Challenge the Motorola Droid?

Apparently It’s Not The Only One…

What’s the Deal?
Today it was officially announced that the Android 2.0 OS for smartphones is available to developers and will be featured in the up and coming Verizon Motorola Droid smartphone. this phone has its official release date as November 6th and has a price tag of about $200 after the usual rebate-contract deals.

HTC Getting In the Game?
Apparently there will be another release on November 6th. The HTC Eris with the Android 1.5 OS, although it has not been officially announced, will be rolled out the same day as the Motorola Droid with the 2.0 Android OS. But HTC has other plans as well. With the release of the HTC HD2, or Leo as it was codenamed, on November 11 2009, with the Windows Mobile 6.5 technology, they have apparently been trying to play catch up to Motorola Droid. The dual release on the 6th helps, but it’s no Droid phone.

Enter the HTC Codename “Passion”
That’s right. Apparently HTC has had another Android 2.0 smartphone in the works for Verizon all this time. It will be the follow-up to the HTC HD2. As of now, nothing much is known of the Passion, but there are plenty of rumors flying around…

One thing is for certain though, if it IS the follow up or sister release of the HD2, then it is sure to have the great new Sense UI and capacitive touchscreen with WVGA resolution as well.

But lets just await the “official” announcement, shall we?

And The Verdict Is…
Go Droid 2.0! Before there is even an update to the Android 1.5-it still has had no update to 1.6- and it is still struggling to make it big in the Smartphone market. Not too many companies have been picking it up. At least not just yet. But maybe things will change with the release of the Android 2.0 Eclair. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see…

The Pixi Being Released November 15th-At $99

But There’s A Catch Right?

Well Silly Of Course There Is

With all the smartphone fanatics all in a tizzy ever since the announcement of the coming Palm Pre cousin, the Palm Pixi in early September, speculation has been the name of the Palm game. Well, now we can all sit down and take a breather. Sprint and Palm announced today that the Pixi is finally officially going to be released on November 15th. But at the price of $99 there is bound to be a catch. And of course there is. It’s the “2 Year Contract-After Rebate Deal.” I ask everyone, “Is anyone else getting tired of having to be locked into a two year contract with Sprint (or anyone else for thatmatter) just to get a decent price?” I mean come on, doesn’t it get old after a while? Anyway, enough of my rant…

So What’s Under the Hood?

Well, it’s not about what it’s got, this time it’s probably going to be known for what it doesn’t have. So let me start there first. For starters, it doesn’t have WiFi. Really? No WiFi? Ok.. I guess we can manage. Well, it’s got a smaller camera then the Pre’s 3 megapixel. Which is actually kinda small in itself considering other 5 megapixel cameras out there. The Pixi only has a 2 megapixel camera, with the resolution at only 320×400, there’s not much that can be said about that.

And the Pixi loses 80 pixels in screen size too. Where the Palm has a half decent screen at 3.4, the Pixi only has a 2.63″ screen. I guess it had to make room for the non-sliding keyboard. That’s right, it’s an unprotected keyboard. But the upside to that is that the buttons are placed a little differently and because they are raised up a bit more, it makes for a bit more accuracy when it comes to texting and email. But we all really want to know is what kind of power doe it have? Well, I am going to have a problem answering that. Apparently when Sprint and Palm were asked that exact question about what kind of processor speed, Ram and app running capabilities, they pretty much declined to comment. So it makes me wonder, will the Pixi live up to the iPhone killer standards of the Palm Pre? I really don’t think so.

But What Does It Have?

Well, it does have the famous Web Os running the browser. Oh, and it still has all the other good stuff, like GPS and Bluetooth. And there is a new Facebook application too. The Pixi is a bit lighter and smaller than the Pre, so it makes it easy to handle too. But that’s about all it has, aside form the rubberized backing to make the texting and email a little easier to hold on to. And that would be the end of the list.

So What’s The Verdict?

Well, if you are still in high school, or if for whatever other reason your first priority might be texting and email, this phone is a keeper. But if you live in the real world, get the Pre. It seems to be a better deal anyway and comes with all the features and power the Pixi doesn’t seem to have. And it’s a whole $20 cheaper at Wal-Mart.

The Long Awaited Nokia N900 Delayed Yet Again-Why?

In My Previous Post “Is Symbian A Dead End, Or Just A Fork In the Road,?“…
…I had talked about the Nokia N900 and how it was foregoing the Symbian platform for the newer Maemo OS. I wrote:

Now, back in May of this year a mole form Nokia leaked to the press that Nokia might just be looking to replace their mobile operating system from Symbian to Maemo with the release of the Smartphone successor to the N97, called the N900. All this time since Nokia and Symbian developed the S60 platform, Nokia has firmly stood behind it with their feet firmly planted in cement. Now it’s been confirmed that they are using Maemo instead.

And also went on to say that no one was sure why Nokia decided to switch to Maemo, but we were all supposed to find out by the end of this month (October). But now,the head of Maemo Marketing, Peter Schneider, states that the long awaited Smartphone will …”start shipping at the end of November.”

What’s the Deal With That?
Well, apparently Nokia should have stuck with the older, but working perfectly operating system, based on Symbian. This is because Maemo marketers released about 300 of the Nokia N900′s to test users and, it is being speculated, the feedback was much worse than they had hoped for. Although Peter Schneider didn’t officially state that this is the reason for the delay of the official release, but it sure looks that way. Even all of the sites, like Amazon UK, that were allowing pre-orders on the phone have pulled the orders.

Why Is the Nokia N900 So Important That We Can’t Wait For IT?
The Nokia N900 actually seems to be the type of phone that is worth the wait. it comes packed with many awesome features and, of course, it has the Maemo OS. Don’t get me wrong, I know I have my preferences, and I have bashed Maemo in preference to Symbian in the past, but it really isn’t a bad little OS at all. After all, it is based on Linux’s open source OS for desktops and I love Linux ( typing this on my own right now). So Maemo, mixed with the cool features of the phone itself, is what makes the Nokia N900 worth squirming for. The N900 comes with a Carl Zeis camera, HSPA, Wi-Fi b/g, a 3.5″ 800×480 touchscreen and a slide out QWERTY keyboard. This smartphone is more like a mobile computer than a phone.

And The Verdict Is?
I think the problem is with the integration of the new OS than anything else. It has a sturdy and reliable hardware package that is sure to beat out the competition, so the only thing that could be the problem is the software. So we are all just going to have to wait until November 17th like everyone else. It’s a bummer, I know, and this is the second time that its been delayed, but it will be worth it, I promise.
