Apps for This and Apps for That-But Now an App to Diagnose Your Cough?

When will it Ever End? When There’s Finally an App To See if You’re Pregnant?

Really? What’s The Deal?
No, there is no app to see if you’re pregnant, that was just me and my exasperation with the app world. I mean, think about it… When is it going to end? In spite of being absolutely disgusting and gross- not to mention the implications if it happens and gets final approval-A Smartphone to diagnose a cough? Enough already!

And it figures, too. The country that has the worst health care system on the planet, in my opinion-and I live here-the US of A, are the ones teaming up with the Australian developers to bring it to the world. But they can’t get their insurance system right-No wonder there’s going to be an app for that-They don’t want to have to be the ones to pay to diagnose. And why should they when they can develop an app for that?

So What’s the Real Deal?
Well, if this app goes through and gets final approval, people will be able to cough into their phone and, depending on the sound of the cough, it will tell you what is wrong with you, if anything. When the developers re finally done developing it, it will get it’s diagnosis information from a database of all different people with al different variables including, height, weight, age, race, and different diseases. you see, according o the developers,a health care worker can diagnose a person based solely on the sound of a cough by itself, so the developers of the app are claiming the software can too.

Dr Jacqueline Smith from the University of Manchester told Discovery.com that

…it could really improve disease diagnosis and help improve people’s access to health care.”

And the Verdict is?
Come on already…Not only is this going to be the most disgusting app ever created, it si going to cause a host of other problems. What if, when it is finally released, it gives the wrong diagnosis and someone ends up dying? What if it sends people for unneeded screenings and the patients end up spending thousands of dollars they shouldn’t have? Not to mention the fat that a Smartphone application is doing the diagnosing. Not doctor! Is the FDA giving the Smartphone a doctorate? Can I diagnose people? No, I don’t have a licence. Will the phone?

This is the stupidest idea ever to hit the app world. I sincerely hope that this one is protested-And hard core!

Intel’s Anti-trust Suit, 2 New Smasung Releases, and an iPhone Developer Gets busted for Stealing phone Numbers…

Wow, What a Day It’s Been!

The Intel Anti-trust Thing
Intel has already either been investigated, or has settled, anti-trust suits in South Korea, Japan and the European Union. Now, I am sorry to have to say, Intel must deal with New York State’s (US) Attorney General, Andrew S. Cuomo. And let me tell you something, being that I am originally from NY, I know how nasty the government can be there. Intel does not want to mess with them, so I hope they settle quickly, or at least show that they didn’t do what NY is alleging they did.

But, with the evidence that has surfaced, I think they would be better off settling, to be honest. First, there is a quote In PCMag.com saying-

Kevin Rollins, had said that Dell had “made no plans to begin using” AMD chips. “Finally, something positive,” commented one Intel executive. On the contrary, Intel CEO Paul Otellini returned: “The best friend money can buy.”

So what’s an Intel to do?
Well, just wait and see. There is so much other evidence on Intel that it is almost impossible to think they aren’t guilty. The suit, even though it is targeted at Intel, also includes IBM, HP, and Dell, for various reasons. Including payoffs to not produce AMD based server processors, artificial caps of 5% of the market share at OEM and for rebates… Among other things… Come on Intel… Did you really think you were gonna get away with it forever?

New Samsung Releases-Mythic and Flight
These two new AT&T releases by Samsung are available starting November 8 and two totally different handsets. The Mythic is trying to give life to the AT&T Mobile TV services and has AT&T Mobile Music, AT&T Navigator, 3.3 display, 3.2 mp Camera, 3G, GPS, Bluetooth and AT&T’s famous TouchWiz.

The Flight, on the other hand, only has a 2 megapixel camera, no 3G and a smaller touchscreen, but it does come with the AT&T Navigator and Music. They are selling at dramatically prices too, the Mythic @$199.99 and The Flight @$99.99, for obvious reasons. Both with contract and rebates.

iPhone Developer Jailed?
Yup.. And apparently it’s not the fist time this has happened in the iPhone world. the arrested is called Storm8 and is a game developer for the iPhone. he is of the World War, Mobster and Vampire Live fame. Allegedly, he was stealing the phone numbers of the people who purchased his games and was using them to his own benefit, without permission. A Big Privacy NO-NO! The last time this happened, a Swiss developer was arrested for the same thing. But he went a little further. The developer, Mogo is the name, was using the numbers to harass the customers into buying more games. So what’s going to happen to Storm8? Not sure just yet, but the Swiss Developer is being sued… Will keep you posted on the outcome.

And The Verdict Is?
Wow, is pretty much all I can say right now. All the big players being investigated for an anti-trust conspiracy? That is gonna hurt when IF they lose.

As for the 2 new phones? It’s great news, as obviously iPhone is getting into trouble in just about every area… and the developer getting jailed? Come on now, we are all grown ups here. Do we really need to steal? Is the business that bad that they have to resort to those kind of actions just to make a buck? Really? Like I said, good thing AT&T released those phones…

Andriod 2.0 is Official-HTC About to Challenge the Motorola Droid?

Apparently It’s Not The Only One…

What’s the Deal?
Today it was officially announced that the Android 2.0 OS for smartphones is available to developers and will be featured in the up and coming Verizon Motorola Droid smartphone. this phone has its official release date as November 6th and has a price tag of about $200 after the usual rebate-contract deals.

HTC Getting In the Game?
Apparently there will be another release on November 6th. The HTC Eris with the Android 1.5 OS, although it has not been officially announced, will be rolled out the same day as the Motorola Droid with the 2.0 Android OS. But HTC has other plans as well. With the release of the HTC HD2, or Leo as it was codenamed, on November 11 2009, with the Windows Mobile 6.5 technology, they have apparently been trying to play catch up to Motorola Droid. The dual release on the 6th helps, but it’s no Droid phone.

Enter the HTC Codename “Passion”
That’s right. Apparently HTC has had another Android 2.0 smartphone in the works for Verizon all this time. It will be the follow-up to the HTC HD2. As of now, nothing much is known of the Passion, but there are plenty of rumors flying around…

One thing is for certain though, if it IS the follow up or sister release of the HD2, then it is sure to have the great new Sense UI and capacitive touchscreen with WVGA resolution as well.

But lets just await the “official” announcement, shall we?

And The Verdict Is…
Go Droid 2.0! Before there is even an update to the Android 1.5-it still has had no update to 1.6- and it is still struggling to make it big in the Smartphone market. Not too many companies have been picking it up. At least not just yet. But maybe things will change with the release of the Android 2.0 Eclair. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see…

Two New Blackberrys On Their Way?

Rumors Finally Confirmed!

Well, after some time, the rumors have finally been confirmed. There are two new blackberrys on their way. After quite some time in the rumor mill, they are finally going to be released. One is by Verizon, called the Blackberry Storm 2, and the other, by T-Mobile, called the Blackberry Bold 9700. both are expected to do well. And that is great news for T-Mobile, considering the latest shenanigans between T-Mobile, Microsoft and the Sidekick.

The Verizon BlackBerry Storm 2

The Storm 2 is set for release very soon, some said the end of September, others are saying the beginning of November. But all the same, it will be released in the USA nad UK first by Verizon with the new BlackBerry OS 5.0. then after a few weeks, other carriers will be able to pick it up in the UK. A few weeks after that, it will be released in Australia by Vodafone Australia. A few highlights are that this new Storm has double the memory as compared to the original. That would be 256MB as compared to the Storm 1 with only 128MB, 2GB on-board Media Memory, where Storm 1 had 1GB, overall device performance enhancements, making it much faster than its predecessor, and Java being set to “on” by default. It also has a sleeker design, being outfitted in black and chrome. It is really quite a marvel to look at.

The T-Mobile BlackBerry Bold 9700
What a step up from the Sidekick fiasco. This might be exactly what T-Mobile needs to satisfy their customers after killing the Sidekick. Maybe an upgrade to the new BlackBerry 9700 will make the customers settle down a bit? For starters, this new BlackBerry happens to be T-Mobile’s first 3G Blackberry in the game and has a set release date of November 11th(?). Although the specs haven’t been made “official” as of yet, they are rumored to be a step up from the rest. Starting out with the, finally, standardized Wi-Fi (802.11g), which makes for “WiFi calling and super speed web browsing,” according to T-Mobile sources. The phone also is coming pre-packed with ready to use mobile web apps and the Amazon MP3 Store. Also included in this great new release is a 3.2 megapixel camera and 480×360 resolution and it is only the second of Blackberrys everywhere to have HSDPA, or High Speed Downlink Packet Access. Wrap all of this up in a nice neat sleek black and chrome package, and you’ve got the new T-Mobile BlackBerry Bold 9700. What a picture.

And The Verdict Is?

Well, It’s about time there is a 3GBlackBerry on the Scene with T-Mobile. After all the played up hype that T-Mobile has been needlessly going through, they need a break such as this one will afford them. And as for Verizon, while they don’t need this as much as T-Mobile, they are sure to do just as well, if not better than T-Mobile will. But I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what the actual releases of the two will bring in the beginning of November. After all, all we can do right not is hold our breath that T-Mobile won’t be sabotaged once again…

And Now For All You Fashion Freaks-Is The New Samsung Armani As Sleek And Overpriced As Their Suits?

Introducing The New Samsung Giorgio Armani Smartphone

This phone was rumored at one point to being called the Armani W820/8200, but I believe that the makers have finally settled on Samsung Armani B7620 as the final release name. But if anything changes, I will be sure to update as information is made available.
Lets Talk Phone Features

Other than the seemingly fashion conscious aspect of the phone (which I will review below), it totes all of the usual features that you would find on any Samsung Smartphone, including a 5 megapixel camera, 3.5″ AMOLED display, 8GB on board storage (plus microSD slot for even more) GPS chip and more. In fact, there are simply too many features to name them all here.

So What’s The Deal With Armani and Windows Being in Bed Together?

Well, a great, fashion conscious phone simply must have just the best OS around, right? Well that’s what the makers wee thinking when they put this little ditty together, anyway. Windows Mobile 6.5 needs some pretty hefty hardware to run it, so that means that the Samsung Armani is carrying some heavy artillery. In fact, its CPU runs at a speed of 800 mhz and it has 192 MB of RAM. Now that has some nice power to it.

And What About The Suit And Tie?

All of the fashion freaks out there MUST be drooling over this one. With its sleek black Armani casing and bronze tone “cuff link” like trim, it almost seems as it’s all tuxed up and ready for the ball. So now any of you out there that simply must have everything to match properly, this is the phone for you.

And The Verdict Is?

Well, I must say that this is one nice phone. It sports the new Windows 6.5 Mobile OS, An Armani tuxedo like quality to the outer casing, and a great camera to take all the pictures in the world so you can show off your new fashion conscious Smartphone. And you know what? It better have all these things. When you are buying a phone for almost 700 Euros or $1,030 USD, you want to be sure you are paying the same for your over priced phone as you are for your suit.

There it is(n’t): The Apple tablet PC supposed to arrive early next year. So what?

Apple guys love their stuff. No matter if they own an iPhone 3GS (which I do not), and iPod (which I do) or a Mac, they are probably the only true brand evangelists in the computer industry. But there is something else they love: Rumors. There are even pretty successful websites dedicated to this subject. So, it’s rumor time again: The “long awaited” tablet PC is supposed to come later this early next year. So what is the big deal? Read the rest of this entry »
