Will Apple Customers Finally Get to Take Decent Night Shots With Next Gen iPhone?

Or Will iPhone Stay in the Smartphone Dark Ages?

Maybe Apple Is Getting the Hint…
In a World Where smartphones’ cameras are growing larger almost every time a new phone comes out, and with the current unofficial standard size of cameras being 5 megapixel, the Apple iPhone’s 3.2 megapixel camera is starting to look a bit outdated in the face of Android, it’s main competitor, as well as the Palm line of smartphones. Not only that, but iPhone users have never been allowed a nighttime photo shoot session, either. Well, no.. That’s wrong, they can, but the photo’s look grainy and very low-quality as compared to the surprisingly high-quality of the day time photos.

Rumor has it Apple may have finally gotten the hint that iPhoners who have tried to stay loyal might not anymore. Rumor also has it Apple has ordered up a whole slew of LED Flashes from Philips’ Lumileds Lighting sector, a well known electronics giant. And yet another says the iPod Touch will be sporting a brand new camera feature, complete with flash, as well.

More Improvements On The Way?
According to AppleInsider.com, the Cupertino-based company had decided to finally look at trying to focus on other enhancements to the iPhone to maintain it’s customer satisfaction quota, however the updates were limited to just an updated Image Sensor to capture 1.1 megapixel more than it already does and improvements to its software technology version 3.0, which apparently took clearer and a bit more detailed pics, according to a article by AppleInseder.com in May. The Software apparently offers better quality motion pics and dim light (cloudy day) shoots too.

Why the Switch Finally? Let’s Take a Look.
So the upcoming Next Generation iPhones and iPod Touches will be getting 5 megapixel cams, complete with LED flash.

With the rise of the people taking pictures on impulse, such as when they are out and about, who is going to want to have to lug a hefty camera around with them as a separate piece of equipment? And even though the new digital’s are getting smaller and lighter, it still amounts to an extra piece of equipment to have to carry around and not forget to take back home with them. When a person has a decent camera built into their smartphone, as most do ow, they are much happier and much more spontaneous when it comes to taking pictures. Lets face it, the customer wants a decent camera built in. And they have started going to the “next guy” to get it, meaning Android (Nexus One and Droid) and Palm’s Pre, even though the camera is not 5 megapixel, it still has a LED Flash with the rest of them.

What’s the Verdict?
How long did Apple think they were going to get away with not having to shell out the cash to give the customers what they want? iPhoners have Been shouting for a better camera with a flash for a long time, like ever since the iPhone came out. It’s almost like Apple is punishing them for something… But you would also think that for it’s price, the 3rd Generation would come with such basic features as a better camera and LED flash, as they are pretty much standard equipment these days. Now maybe if Apple actually does something about the flash thing, they might want to concentrate on their reception a little more, as I heard a rumor that it wasn’t actually AT&T’s fault but that of the iPhone…

With 2009 Gone What Are Predictions for 2010-What Will the Year Bring?

But First: An Overview of 2009

THE Year for Great Mobile Tech
2009 was THE year of Mobile Technology in general. Between Smartphones, Netbooks, Tablets and anything else mobile tech related, 2009 was a great year for mobile tech. The way smartphones took over is a great feat in itself. The Netbook was supposed to take off and it did-at first. But it didn’t gain the ground it was supposed to. Then came the 7″ Netbook and that was where the consumer drew the line in mobile technology and its getting smaller. I mean, who in their right mind is going to want such a small computer? For something better, you might as well get the XP Phone-when it finally comes out anyway… At least it would be worth its smallness.

So 2009 being the year of mobile tech, it makes sense that smartphones took over the world. The battle between iPhone and Android-any Droid phone-took off. And it is still going strong. And now with the upcoming release of the Google Phone-The Nexus One-it remains to be seen if iPhone will finally die, or if Google is just a lot of hot air trying to masquerade as something bigger than it really is. Android as w hole, or as a separate being, so to speak could really be the iPhone killer, but not as the Nexus One. There is nothing good enough-or different enough-about it to compete where others have failed to do so.

So What Will 2010 Bring?
Well, so far as the world knows, it’s supposed to be bringing us many things. Here is my take on a few that are supposed to be out in the first quarter of 2010.

It’s hard to say , really. People are adamant the Apple Tablet will appear, finally, but I don’t think so. Think about this, how many years have people and analysts alike been saying the Apple Tablet is “On its way” or “Apple Tablet Imminent?” It’s been a promise-No a threat- by Apple for over a decade and has yet to materialize. Doesn’t anyone get it? Or am I the only one who sees the promises and failures to release-or even announce-the tablet, for what it really is? A marketing ploy a diversion of something bigger and better. Or that is what it looks like anyway. Just look at all the hype and excitement over something that does not even exist. And then take a look at how much money is being made off of the rising stocks every time someone even whispers the words Tablet or iSlate or iblah blah.. It doesn’t matter what the word is, but it doesn’t exist and probably never will. Give it a rest already!

The Google Phone will not be everything it says it’s going to be. That’s a given already. It hasn’t even been released yet and people are moving on to bigger and better things. If it was all that it was cracked up to be then they wouldn’t have given in to the subsidized plan crap that is T-Mobile and all the rest of the carriers with their contracts for a free or reduced price smartphone. If the Google Phone was really special, it would have been a straight up unlocked phone. Period. No gimmicks, no marketing ploys, just the great power that is Google and Android. But it’s not, and may never be.

Windows Mobile 6.5.3-Probably the biggest joke of the smartphone world coming. What should have been a great half point release (6.5) was an utter failure, making Vista look like an angel. So what could this new one on the horizon have to offer, unless it’s gonna fix all the past mistakes? Nothing. Enough said. They should have put their efforts into WinMo 7 instead of 6.5m then maybe the screw-ups would have only been half as bad.

The Final Word & The Verdict Is?
This year is already looking like a failure. With all the mobile tech coming out in the first quarter, it's surprising that this is all we have to look forward to. It is disappointing, really. With the greatest technological minds in the world working for these aforementioned companies, it is really sad and surprising that they can't do any better. So, I have pretty much given up hope for he first half of the year, and I hope the second half will be better, but as of now, it doesn't look like it. I mean, with all the hype going into the products mentioned above, it doesn't look like anything else is going to happen i these areas.

The only thing I can see happening that will blow people away is the iPhone making it to another carrier. Just not the one that everyone thinks it will. We all think it will be T-Mobile or Verizon, but I am not getting that vibe. I think it will be more like Sprint, maybe. I mean, the irony would be the iPhone jumping form one crappy network to another, wouldn't it? It would be just like Apple to do something like that, wouldn't it…

If anyone has anything to add, drop me a line and let me know. Is there anything you think should get some recognition?

Who needs a Cell Phone Anymore? Smartpones Took Over-But What About the Hybrids?

Why Are the Hybrids Not More Popular & For That Matter, Who Will Even Need a Smartphone Anymore With Them Around?

XP Phone
The Evolution of the Little Talked About-But Much Wanted-Hybrid
With the rise of the smartphone, one thing is for sure, cell phones are almost coming to the phasing out stage. Maybe not within the next year, or even two years, but I would have to say that by the end of three years-at absolute most-the regular cell phone will be rendered useless, if not obsolete.

Think about this… The Smartphone has taken a little bit to catch on and was once a thing for corporate businessmen, such as is the Blackberry once was, the rich and/or upper class and the like, right? Well, these days, and especially over the course of 2009, the smartphone has become the most talked about and newly “needed” item and (almost) everyone has one. And those who do not, either have the cell pone/netbook/laptop combination or they have plans to get a smartphone. It was the tech talk of 2009 and it brings me to a really simple question. What then of the up and coming hybrids? The so called “XP Phone” gadget type thing that we hear so little about? And what about the newer one, the HDPC? Where are these little things going to come into play? Here’s a thought for you…

The “XP Phone” and Why We Heard Almost Nothing About IT
You would think a gadget that acts like a computer and makes calls like a cell phone would make the news a bit more. Oh yeah, that’s right-it did. The Smartphone, right? Wrong. There is this thing called the XP Phone that almost no one talked about in the beginning of December, but has actually been around for a while. The XP Phone has features just like a regular PC, or a netbook if you will and a cell phone together. And the XP Phone is not the only one around or available, either, but more on that in a bit.

The XP Phone is from China’s In Technology Group and is not available here in the US, of course just like any good phone anymore, but it is apparently, according to some sources on the internet, available for the AT&T, Vodafone and Orange carriers with optional 3G status on pre-order, still as yet unpriced. There is an order form on the newly minted English version of the site that takes your information and after you input your info, and any remarks you might have and the color and carrier of choice, click submit and it tells you to wait a few seconds to continue ordering. It then states that the “Booking Order is Confirmed” after it successfully processes your info and that’s it. The only personal info it asks for is your name address and phone number, no billing info or credit card to hold the order. I think it may be possible they are just testing the waters to see how many people might actually purchase it, as there is no price or release date… I entered my info the other day, and as of now all I haven’t even gotten an email saying my info was received. No harassing phone calls, no marketers-nothing at all. Very strange for a pre-order system. On most sites, they at least send you a confirmation email. I will keep you all posted on the situation and any new news (or no news).

Ok, so, now for the features… The biggest is that is has both solid state and standard hard disks built in, for the power saving features, a super CPU called the “AMD Super Mobile CPU,” and so much more. Here are the specific specs of this power gadget in a little package, VIA Pocketables.net:

  • • CPU: AMD Super Mobile CPU
  • • Memory: 512M/1G
  • • SSD: 8G/16G/32G/64G
  • • HDD: 30G/60G/80G/120G
  • • LCD: 4.8′ TFT Touch-screen LCD 800*480
  • • Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP
  • • Network: GSM/GPRS/EDGE/WCDMA (HSDPA/HSUPA)
  • • CDMA/CDMA2000 1X/CDMA1X EVDO,TD-SCDMA,TD-HSDPA
  • • Wireless: WiFi 802.11b/g,WiMax(optional),Buletooth,Stand-alone GPS
  • • Camera Specifications:CMOS, 300k/1.3 Million
  • • Ports: 1 x earphone jack, 1 x microphone jack,Docking Connector (includes VGA output signal ), 1 x USB 2.0, SIM Slot
  • • Battery: Removable Lithium-ion
  • • Talk time: about 5 hours,Stand by time: about 5 days
  • • Real life: about 7 hours(Standard), about 12 hours(Large)
  • • Talk time: Standby time,Operation time may vary depending different usage.
  • • Weight: 400g (include battery)

So there you have it. A computer and a cell phone in one. So why is it then, if it has everything everyone could ever want or need all in one device, is it not more popular? And why is it that it has not yet caught on in other countries or made available for export anywhere? We’ll get to that in a minute, but first, I’ve got another one for you. Same concept, different name.

The Hybrid Portable Dual Computer
This hybrid is very much like the XP Phone. It is almost the same size and shape, color and what have you, but it has a different name. There is not really much to go on once you are on the site, unless of course you can read their language that is. I am assuming it is Korean, but please correct me if I am wrong, as the group, called Mobile Intelligent Ubiquitous Technologies, is based in Seoul, Korea. The only page in English, really is the product page for the hybrid and any other link I click on sends me to a 404 error page. The only info on the site about the actual device is this photo-describing what the device is:

I have, however managed to find some info about it on the Internet, of course, so here’s what I’ve got:It has all the normal functions of a PC and a cell phone plus a video camera, TV and radio-all digital of course and a 3 megapixel camera. But other than that, your guess is as good as mine.

The biggest attraction to the device I think will be the features available for the price and weight. Think about this, it weighs a little over 3/4 a pound, slightly more than 400 grams and has everything a PC and a cell phone and more. Who wouldn’t want one of these? And apparently, according to some sources, it is going to be priced around $500 USD, more or less, making it a bit less expensive than other regular smartphones on the market.

Which Brings Me To My Original Question…
Why the hell on Earth is no one talking about these devices? I just do not get it. The “XP Phone” is touted as a fully featured smartphone with laptop/PC capabilities and the HDPC is touted as a laptop/PC with fully featured Smartphone capabilities. What’s the difference and why are companies not taking more aggressive action to market it or make it their own? I will tell you why, at least the reason I think we don’t hear more of it. First of all, if something like these devices were to get out on the mainstream market, it would be the death of the smartphone, netbook, laptop all at once. A device that does all of the above-and more-in the palm of your hand, weighing less than one pound and costing less than a smartphone that is unsubsidized. All the other carriers and manufacturers would go out of business.

The other take is for whatever reason, no one wants to know about it. Think about this-why is the netbook not more popular? Because no one wants something so small when they can have a regular sized laptop or a PC even that does the same thing cheaper. For less cost than a netbook, they get the whole package of the laptop or PC and it is fully featured. Whereas some netbooks have a watered down OS because of the processing power involved-there is almost none on some models.

And the Verdict Is
Well, to be honest, I put in my “Pre-order” and I am hoping that something materializes from it. I sincerely hope the hybrids and the XP Phone will make it. They have everything anyone could ever want form a mobile device. It is mobile computing and a phone and everything else anyone could ever need in one package. Isn’t that what everyone has been waiting for all these years? Yet when we are finally hit with it, it gets ignored like no one ever thought about it. But it is here, and I am hoping it will be to stay. I will keep you all posted on the pre-order situation and let you know how that turns out.

Motorola Is At it Again- The Opus and the Backflip

Two Great Leaks, One Great Company

The Motorola Leaked-Specs and Photos
According to the Boy Genius Report, the Motorola Opus is leaking some specs and hey have the photos to prove it. And they state: The features on the device are actually pretty reasonable, and we’d imagine it to sell for a reasonable attractive price-point at release.” So, why don’t we take a look at what it’s got…
BGR-Motorola Opus
The Rundown of the Opus Specs-The Important Stuff
According to the BGR, the Motorola Opus will be launching only with Android 1.5, but with a Zeus Processor and has many other cool features to make up for it Read on:

First, it comes with a spruced up camera. 5 megapixel to be exact with auto focus and LED flash and then, pair that with the 3.1 hVGA 220×480 resolution capacitive touchscreen display, and you’ve got a decent camera. It also has the usual stuff, the A-GPS, Bluetooth and WiFi support, along with a microSD card slot, an accelerometer
and a 2.5mm headphone jack. The internal memory will consist of 512 MB Flash and 256 Ram, so that’s not too bad, I suppose. It’s actually a sweet little phone for those who aren’t power users, or looking for something more “Droid Like.”

The Motorola “Backflip”Backflip-Front
The Motorola MB300 Backflip/Enzo, has leaked and, according to Phandroi is apparently going to make history as the first Android Phone with AT&T. It is much like the Motorola CLIQ, reports say, and as such comes with the usual specs, such as the 3.1 hVGA Capacitive Touchscreen Display, the 528 Mhz CPU, WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth, etc., etc., and only comes with Google Maps, although Android Market will apparently be supported.

Now Here Is Where it Gets Weird-And Its Name
Now apparently it also comes with a 5 megapixel camera with auto focus and a LED Flash. But according to the pics and to the reports, where is it going to go? You see, the QWERTY keyboard is physical and located on he back of the deice, while the touchscreen is on the front. So, again I ask, where is a camera going to go?
Backflip-Back
Here’s where. The camera is where it is supposed to be, it’s the keyboard that is strange in its placement. It is on top of the camera. The keyboard flips up, exposing the camera an then everything is kosher again. And apparently there is also a touchscreen on the back too, to make for better scrolling and such.
flip-Open
And the Verdict Is?
Well, I will say this, this is what I think everyone was hoping the Droid was going to be like. The Droid touted itself as a phone that “Does” But the thing it didn’t do is what the Backflip will do. It is everyone’s dream phone come to life in one single package, finally. I think that once people get over the way it looks, thy will go after it like there is no other phone available. Unless, of course, they don’t want AT&T-And most people don’t. I am seriously hoping it is not exclusive like the iPhone was. Because then people will ahve a great phone with really… Well, you know.

The Opus is a cute little phone. It will be a great phone for first timers or for those looking for a lightweight smartphone. It will do well, and apparently it will have a decent price, so o complaints here on that…

But it feels almost like there is something missing from it, do you know what I mean?

The LG eXpo Finally Ships But Without the Projector-Um… What’s the Point?

No Release Date Specified Either

Back of Projector Phone

Back of Projector Phone

Again, I ask-What’s the Point?
Well folks, it’s finally here! The LG Expo Projector Phone! But here’s the catch… It costs $199 with a two year contract and rebate from AT&T, and the Projector is not yet available. And when it is made available, you are going to have to shell out another $179 to get it. And there is no scheduled release date for it yet either. How is a company going to sell their “signature projector phone” without it’s optional projector available?

Should you want it without a contract, you are going to shell out $449. Plus another $179 for the projector that is as of yet unavailable. But, if they rope you into signing your life away and if you pay $299 upfront and IF they send you the $100 rebate, it will only cost $199. But, you still have to buy the projector separately. That is to say IF the projector ever becomes available. You would think that at that price, the projector would come with it. But of course it doesn’t, it’s unavailable, oh yes. I forgot…

LG eXpo-Front

LG eXpo-Front

And has anyone ever thought that maybe the projector might not become available at all? Stranger things have happened, I know, but you never know. There have been many items in the past on pre order, or highly anticipated which as of yet never materialized for one reason or another. Just look at the fabled Apple Tablet, which to date has yet to materialize at all, with the exception of people saying it will, eventually in 2010. Or the CrunchPad now known as the Joo Joo, which is on pre order and in the middle of a hefty lawsuit. That is one item most likely never to hit the market, and then all the pre orders are out… So what makes anyone think this will materialize, because they say so?

The Ole’ Bait & Switch
And it figures AT&T is attached to this deal. The company known as “last in customer service” is the carrier for the so called “LG Projector Phone”, (which BTW explains the ungodly price), and advertised it as such. All the headlines stated the LG eXpo-The Projector Phone-would be available on December 7 2009. What they didn’t say is the projector would not be available. They advertised it as The Projector Phone. Then the projector phone when released, came not only without the projector, but with the “optional” projector unavailable.

LG eXpo Open Face

LG eXpo Open Face

And the Verdict Is?
I just do not understand how AT&T and LG can do all this advertising about the latest and greatest in technology, the LG eXpo Projector Phone, and then not have the projector available? How do companies get away with hyping up their products and then have half of the product not available for purchase upon the release date? The only reason some people are buying the projector phone is for the projector, and AT&T knows that.

Never once have they mentioned that it has a finger print scanner, no. The focus was on the pico projector instead. At least the fingerprint scanner is usable anyway. And a really cool feature that makes the phone worth it, even without the projector. That is what should have been advertised. Not something that wasn’t going to be available until much later.

Operation Chokehold Looms Near-Will It Actually Happen?

With the Satirical Blog Gaining Momentum “Fake Jobs” Dan Lyons Backing Down

Lyons’ Fake Jobs Character Telling Readers Plan is “Just Plain Stupid?”
Come on, really? you are going to start a blog such as the one Dan Lyons has started and write a post such as the post “Operation Chokehold” and NOT expect it to gain as much momentum as it has? You’ve got to be kidding me! Especially with all the customer service problems (They come in last according to all reports) and network problems, (They actually made an app for that!)plus all the crappy iPhone rules and regs and rejections, the app problems and such…

And now AT&T wants to cap the data usage? They want to initiate tiered pricing because apparently too many people are actually using their unlimited data plans. How’s that for a load of BS. What did AT&T think? That because they (he customers) actually pay the money, there were just going to let all that paid-for data usage go to waste because they (AT&T) are making money off it? And now, it looks like AT&T is starting to get the message from the way the customers are reacting to the blog because it looks as if they are going to start offering incentives to those who limit their data usage.

Of course something like what Dan Lyons is doing is going to pick up speed and get out of control real quick. Why wouldn’t it? Customers are pissed off and they have something to say to the people who claim to run AT&T and who claim to care about the customers. And the Fake Steve Jobs’ blog has now given them a way to do it. Whether it was a joke or not, did Lyons and AT&T really think the people who read this blog wouldn’t take it seriously? I mean, come on! They read your blog for a reason! They are sick of AT&T’s crap, but can’t just walk away for fear of their wallets being emptied with the early termination fees. Or they are afraid of being fired by the big bosses. That’s right folks, even the employees don’t like AT&T

While they say it takes a village to raise a child, it takes massive protest from the people to go up a company like AT&T-And this time it might actually happen! So just like it said in the Operation Chokehold “memo” from AT&T, they are going to “Send the message to AT&T that we are sick of their substandard network and sick of their abusive comments.” And from the looks of things, it just might work.

Operation Choke Hold-The Customer’s Scream For Better Service
And better service the customer probably will not get. Here’s why:

Why should AT&T change anything if they are doing so well already? You see, things have gone on like they are for quite some time now. And AT&T has seemingly brainwashed their iPhone users-and other cell phone and plan customers-into thinking there was nothing they could do for better service. They (AT&T) are pretty much telling their customers that “Yes, we know wee have crappy service, but if you want your iPhone, deal with it!”

But now the problem is that AT&T’s contract is almost up with Apple, and the service looks as if it is headed to it’s arch rival-Verizon. And the customers who were promised the best service in all the land, well they are not going to have to take it anymore. And they know it. So why would they care if AT&T is mad about the protest supposed to take place to day 12 PST (3PM EST)?

And the Verdict Is?
Well, a spokesperson from AT&T pretty much made their position known to the Fake Steve Jobs’ readers by stating “…there is nothing amusing about advocating that customers attempt to deliberately downgrade service on a network that provides critical communications services for more than 80 million customers.” AT&T also called the planned protest “irresponsible and pointless.”

What do all of you think? Is it pointless? Maybe, but it certainly is not illegal as they would have you think and as is posted as a question on the Fake Steve Jobs’ blog that’s for sure. SO will it happen” Who knows. Personally I hope it does. I hope the AT&T customers take a stand and let AT&T know just how mad they have made them. If not now, then AT&T will know they can do whatever they want to the customers and get away. As a mater of fact, I predict this… I think that if the customers do not go through with Operation Chokehold today, AT&T will cap data usage, just because they now know the customers won’t do anything about the way AT&T treats them.

SO Get out there if you have an iPhone or any other AT&T device with 3G data service and participate in Operation Chokehold. Let A&T know you don’t want to put up with their crap anymore. And while you are at it, why don’t you just go ahead and but a Droid? That’ll really make them mad. Besides it’s probably cheaper than the early termination fees…

Acer Liquid A1(S100)- FCC Approval Sending it To AT&T? PLUS: More on the Way?

Is The US Finally Getting Its Wish?

acer_liquid_front_small
Still No Guarantee…
Even though the recent FCC approval of the Acer Liquid A1 for the 800 Mhz and 1900Mhz HSDPA version of the Android smartphone would point all indications to AT&T as a carrier for it, there is still no official guarantee the company will be. As a matter of fact, there is no official guarantee in place saying the Liquid A1 is coming to the US at all! Well, Wishful thinking and law of attraction folks! Power of the people! Lets all hope and pray that it makes it here cause I might actually spring for a new phone if it does…

The Acer Liquid A1 smartphone is a beauty of a phone with all the standard features plus a few that drive us all wild. The Qualcomm QSD 8250 Snapdragon 1 ghzCPU (at 768 MHz) processor is one of them that make us crazy for it. The 3.5″ WVGA 800×480 capacitive touchscreen, 5 megapixel camera with auto focus, 256mb SDRAM, 512 Flash ROM, Bluetooth 2.0 EDR, 3.5mm headphone jack, a built in GPS receiver for location services, a digital compass and a G-sensor and light sensor. The Acer Liquid A1 is the first of the Acer phones to have the Android Operating System and is running he 1.6 cupcake version of it. And it certainly will not be the last of them.

10 More on Their Way
With yesterday’s release of the Liquid A1 in Taiwan and the day before in Hong King, it’s given the makers of the Liquid a preview of how the Android phones will be received, should they want to introduce new ones. And that’s exactly what hey are going to do in the first half of 2010, release maybe 6 new Acer Android based smartphones. One for each price range, and will be marketed towards businesses and consumers alike.

In this case, it looks like what was once a Windows loyal company, it would appear that Acer is leaving them in the dust. And why wouldn’t they? Windows Mobile 6.5 hasn’t been all the great of an update and everyone is already wishing the version 78 of Windows Mobile would hurry up and get completely developed and released already.

LG Is Getting Smarter By the Day-The IQ (AKA The Monaco) Is On the Loose!

Coming Soon to Canada

LG IQ aka Monaco

LG IQ aka Monaco

That’s right folks, LG is adding to their collection of smartphones with the smarter LG IQ, also known as the Monaco and although it was once thought the IQ would be debuted in the US, we were all wrong. Apparently Telus has picked up this pretty little smartphone by LG and brought it to Canada for it’s premier debut. And although it was also rumored to be the very first WinMo 7 phone, when it was “leaked by accident” on AT&T’s site by an employee (who apparently can’t spell) it proves to be untrue as well. The LG IQ will be sporting the well known WinMo 6.5. It’s ok, though, there are so many other better features that will make up for that point.

For example, it will have the much talked about and used SnapDragon 1ghz processor, a 3.2” WVGA touch screen display, 400×800 resolution, GPS and a 5 megapixel camera. The one feature that this phone has that makes it stand out from all the rest is the fingerprint scanner. There are videos of it in action at Engadget.com.

What’s The Verdict?
This is a really nice follow to the other LG phones on the market. I just wish AT&T would have grabbed it like they were supposed to. And I must say I am glad they decided not to use WinMo 7, I mean come on… WinMo 6.5 is still hot off the presses and they are already pushing another update? If they were going to try to push 7 out so soon, they should have just waited to do it and never release 6.5 in the first place. It makes no sense to me at all, except they were getting a little scared about al the Droid phones on the loose… That makes sense…..

The Fight Between AT&T and Verizon-The Dirty Little Details

What is Really Happening?

What’s the Deal?
First, a bit of history. For the past few weeks, AT&T and Verizon have been fighting over some ads that have hit televisions and print everywhere. The ads, aimed at debunking AT&T’s 3G service are all truth, claims Verizon, but AT&T says they are misleading and false advertising. So who is right? And what’s happening now? Will this fight ever end?

The Fight-Verizon’s Ads
The Original Verizon Ad that made AT&T upset and prompted them to sue Verizon shows a man walking doing all the things that Verizon’s 3G coverage allows him to do and then shows the AT&T person not being able to do the same thing because there is no 3G coverage. There is a map of the coverage for both carriers above both their heads.

Then AT&T decided to sue Verizon on November 3 2009, and asked for a temporary restraining order, saying the ad was misleading, and that AT&T customers are going to think there is no coverage at all in the whited out areas, even though the ad clearly talks about the 3G coverage, not general all over coverage for all services. In reality, it is true that AT&T does not service those areas with 3G service, but with EDGE, a service that AT&T customers get “jumped” to if they enter a non-serviceable 3G area. Verizon made statements and shot back at AT&T saying:

“AT&T now is attempting to silence Verizon’s ads that include maps graphically depicting the geographic reach of AT&T’s 3G network as compared to Verizon’s own 3G network because AT&T does not like the truthful picture painted by that comparison.”

And on November 19th, a judge agreed with Verizon and did not grand the pulling of the ads and they are scheduled to meet again on December 16 2009. This ruling include the original ad plus Bench, College, Naughty or Nice, the Island of Misfits and Christmas blues, the other ads named in the suit.

So Now What?
Well, now that Verizon won, AT&T seems to be having a bit of a hissy fit and created a brand new, seemingly un-powerful and badly scripted new ad, starring Luke Wilson of the Legally Blond, Jackass Number 2 and Old School fame. I guess AT&T thought if they got someone who starred in comedy movies, it would mask the dryness of the ad itself. Boy were they wrong. Poor Luke tries to show consumers why it is that AT&T will serve them better throughout the country, with faster speeds, ability to surf and talk at the same time (Droid Does That), access to over 100,000 apps (Droid has over 11,000 available, but how many does a person really need?), and then ends with saying “Who has a “V” for the first letter of their name?” and Verizon obviously gets that.

So What’s The Verdict?
Well, since the judge decided that Verizon is right, even though the judge did say they were being sneaky, Verizon is saying that the injunction should not be granted. If Verizon did not break the law, they should be able to run all of the commercials.

AT&T needs to give it up. It is true, just like Verizon said, that AT&T’s 3G coverage, while it may be fast, does NOT cover the amount of area Verizon does. And on the issue of the things the AT&T Smartphones are able to do, the Droid does it all too. SO now it’s AT&T actually misleading consumers and Verizon should give AT&T a taste of their own suing medicine.

As for the sheer volume of apps available from AT&T, I must say this. Who on Earth needs so very many useless and do nothing but waste your money apps? At least the apps available for Verizon actually are useful, or fun. Get a grip AT&T and grow up.

Intel’s Anti-trust Suit, 2 New Smasung Releases, and an iPhone Developer Gets busted for Stealing phone Numbers…

Wow, What a Day It’s Been!

The Intel Anti-trust Thing
Intel has already either been investigated, or has settled, anti-trust suits in South Korea, Japan and the European Union. Now, I am sorry to have to say, Intel must deal with New York State’s (US) Attorney General, Andrew S. Cuomo. And let me tell you something, being that I am originally from NY, I know how nasty the government can be there. Intel does not want to mess with them, so I hope they settle quickly, or at least show that they didn’t do what NY is alleging they did.

But, with the evidence that has surfaced, I think they would be better off settling, to be honest. First, there is a quote In PCMag.com saying-

Kevin Rollins, had said that Dell had “made no plans to begin using” AMD chips. “Finally, something positive,” commented one Intel executive. On the contrary, Intel CEO Paul Otellini returned: “The best friend money can buy.”

So what’s an Intel to do?
Well, just wait and see. There is so much other evidence on Intel that it is almost impossible to think they aren’t guilty. The suit, even though it is targeted at Intel, also includes IBM, HP, and Dell, for various reasons. Including payoffs to not produce AMD based server processors, artificial caps of 5% of the market share at OEM and for rebates… Among other things… Come on Intel… Did you really think you were gonna get away with it forever?

New Samsung Releases-Mythic and Flight
These two new AT&T releases by Samsung are available starting November 8 and two totally different handsets. The Mythic is trying to give life to the AT&T Mobile TV services and has AT&T Mobile Music, AT&T Navigator, 3.3 display, 3.2 mp Camera, 3G, GPS, Bluetooth and AT&T’s famous TouchWiz.

The Flight, on the other hand, only has a 2 megapixel camera, no 3G and a smaller touchscreen, but it does come with the AT&T Navigator and Music. They are selling at dramatically prices too, the Mythic @$199.99 and The Flight @$99.99, for obvious reasons. Both with contract and rebates.

iPhone Developer Jailed?
Yup.. And apparently it’s not the fist time this has happened in the iPhone world. the arrested is called Storm8 and is a game developer for the iPhone. he is of the World War, Mobster and Vampire Live fame. Allegedly, he was stealing the phone numbers of the people who purchased his games and was using them to his own benefit, without permission. A Big Privacy NO-NO! The last time this happened, a Swiss developer was arrested for the same thing. But he went a little further. The developer, Mogo is the name, was using the numbers to harass the customers into buying more games. So what’s going to happen to Storm8? Not sure just yet, but the Swiss Developer is being sued… Will keep you posted on the outcome.

And The Verdict Is?
Wow, is pretty much all I can say right now. All the big players being investigated for an anti-trust conspiracy? That is gonna hurt when IF they lose.

As for the 2 new phones? It’s great news, as obviously iPhone is getting into trouble in just about every area… and the developer getting jailed? Come on now, we are all grown ups here. Do we really need to steal? Is the business that bad that they have to resort to those kind of actions just to make a buck? Really? Like I said, good thing AT&T released those phones…
