The Cool K07-Will this be the knock-off that kills the Palm Pre?

Real Palm Pre Competition

The Palm Pre-So Good Everyone Wants to Knock it Off
The first knock-off of the Pre was great. But this new one seems to be a bit better in the features department PLUS is a dead ringer for the Pre. Makes me wonder two things… First: Why doesn’t everyone have one of these? And second: Why didn’t Palm do it first?

“Pre” History
The Palm Pre has become somewhat of a miracle smartphone. The first with the new WebOS, one of the more powerful smartphone operating systems, but very easy to use, the Pre still gets high marks and is still considered to be the best contender as an iPhone killer. It has all the great things a smartphone should have, in just the right proportions. A 3.1 TFT capacitive Touchscreen with 320*480 resolution and multi-touch capabilities, Audio/video playback, GPS, WiFi, stereo Bluetooth 2.1, 3 megapixel camera with LED flash and a full QWERTY sliding keyboard. It also has many other basic features.

The Cool K07-The Newest Knock-Off
The Cool K07 has all that, just in different proportions-a little smaller to be exact. The K07 has a 2.8 touchscreen with 240*320 resolution, dual camera-one 2.1 megapixel camera with LED flash for still pictures and the other for video, so of course it has Audio/Video playback with the tested video resolution at 1600*1200 MAX. It also has Bluetooth, GPS, and a full QWERTY keyboard as well.

But the real features is what the K07 has that the Pre doesn’t. An analog TV, an FM radio plus a scheduler that can turn itself on and off with a built in scheduler, an E-Book reader, dual SIM cards and dual standby, TF internal memory of 19.5Mb and it supports external TF memory card up to 8G.

And the Verdict Is?
Why is it that the Chinese always have the good stuff? It seems as if all the Chinese Knock-offs have some extra features that work great and that everyone else wishes they had on the original phones. I am hoping that with these knock-offs maybe the manufacturers of the originals will get the hint and start adding these cool features. Granted it’s only an analog TV, but it’s a TV on demand that you can use to watch your favorite shows when they come on. No more missing or having to record, or having to Bit Torrent it later on. You can watch what you want when you want.

Plus, this one looks exactly like a Pre, it’s just a little smaller of a display and camera size. And you get all this for a little less money too. Yes, the originals are usually better, but in the case fo the Cool K07, I have to wonder if this is still a true thing… There is still a manufacturer’s warranty in most cases when you purchase a knock-off new, so I don’t see what the problem is. I honestly wish I could get my hands on one.

With the Web OS update and the Pixi clearing the FCC, things are about to change massively for Palm!

While Sprint Pushes the Pre Update, WiFi Clears the FCC on the Pixi

Palm Pre Sprint p100eww Update-webOS 1.3.5
The update range from fixes of incorrect conversation views to tweaks in fonts and messaging. However while the updates are many, there are two categories that were affected the most, the App Catalog and the System itself. It is in these two areas where most of the updating took place, so here is a rundown of some of the changes:

App catalog:

Users can now download multiple applications at the same time.

Users can run the app download in the background if they are doing something else

Users can now download all available updates at one time (instead of one by one) at the tap of the Pre

The new improved search results are based on a tweaked algorithm

People living in US Territories can now purchase paid or apps.

Automatic resume of a download if it was interrupted by no fault of the user-IE if they go out of network

Full storage capacity is now accessible and downloaded apps are stored on the USB drive

The System:

Again, user can use full capacity of memory storage

In areas of poor network coverage, there is improved battery life

if user is using an app that supports landscape mode, notification is given is at the bottom of the screen

After a user logs into the Palm Profile, the apps downloaded from the App Catalog are restored i the background and the user can use other phone features during the restoration.

Now, if a user swiped a link to delete it, it will delete instead of open in the browser.

Of course, the update is free and is available on the Palm site for download, along with detailed instructions and complete details about all the changes, including those not listed here.

WiFi Certification Shows up on Database
Although everyone knew Palm would eventually make its way to Verizon, just because this WiFI Certificate is showing up on the WiFi Certified Database, doesn’t mean it’s headed to Verizon for sure. Or does it? Apparently, according to Engadget.com, the frequencies match those of Verizon and they are attached to the Pixi. Plus, the FCC filing for a CDMA/EVDO Palm, model number P121EWW. All signs lead to the WiFi Pixi in 2010. A Pixi with Bluetooth and all the rest of the Pixi features. This is making for a great first quarter for Verizon, that’s for sure.

And the Verdict Is?
Well, it took long enough, anyway. And just like the folks over at Engadget said, why on Earth would anyone want to scoop up a WiFiless Pixi from Sprint now knowing a better one is on the way-from a better carrier altogether? Verizon is taking over for real this coming year. With the preparations for all these different phones-including the iPhone-watch and see if I am not right…

With both exclusivity contracts almost up, the iPhone and Palm Pre may be headed for a new life with Verizon. But will they be prepared and will the sales tactic work?

Gearing Up For New Sales-Will it Work?

What’s the Deal on the Phones?
Well, apparently Verizon is getting ready to start carrying the Palm Pre. As the Sprint contract for the Pre is about to end, the contract was only for six months, Verizon is looking to scoop it up when it does. The thing is, Sprint hasn’t sold as many Pres or Pixis as they thought they would have, and the company reported a 2Q loss larger than expected. In turn lowering Sprint profits as well. Could this have anything to do with Sprint’s plans and customers becoming very upset, almost enraged, over them? They really aren’t what they are cracked up to be, as maybe a Pre on a Verizon plan might just be a bit more well received, IMHO.

As for the iPhone, its “loyal” customers are just about sick of the AT&T problems with customer service, bad connections, network areas and speeds, and are hoping for a new carrier when the iPhone contract expires. Even if AT&T continues to offer the iPhone, Apple may give up exclusivity in order to give the customers what they want, and not lose sales. The question is, however, just because Verizon wants and is preparing for the iPhone, does it mean they will get it? That decision is ultimately up to Apple. And from the looks of it, it could go either way between Verizon or T-Mobile at this point.

So Verizon will prepare, just in case, for both the Palm Pre and the iPhone. They have even gone as far as modifying their network to accommodate the iPhone, even though some analysts are almost 100% sure the iPhone will end up with T-Mobile. But hey, better be prepared with a great network, then live up to AT&T’s reputation and not be prepared, right?

And the Verdict Is?
I think if Verizon does happen to scoop up both the Palm Pre and the iPhone, they will have made the best decision in all the land. The obviously have a better, larger 3G network, and it has been proven. And although AT&T’s might just happen to be faster, faster doesn’t always mean better. People, especially travelers, like many business people who use iPhones, want, no they NEED, better coverage. And AT&T just doesn’t have it.

As for the Pre coming to Verizon, I think the Verizon plans will make a world of difference as to the sales. I predict that if the Pre comes to Verizon, the sales will pick up and maybe even almost double within 6 months of doing so.

We’ll see what happens, and I will be watching…

Palm, the maker of the Pre and Pixi, has been sued by Artifex Software Inc. because of alleged copyright infringement on the part of Palm, according to a press release on December 2 2009. Palm has allegedly stolen technology from Artifex by copying and distributing the Artifex proprietary muPDF technology, which is a high performance PDF rendering engine. Artifex is known for developing the family of interpreters known as the Ghostscript.

The suit, which was filed in the United States District Court of Northern California, alleges Palm “improperly integrated muPDF into the Palm Pre’s “PDF viewer” application without Artifex’s approval.” This would make the infringement as wide spread as the Palm Pre itself as the viewer was shipped with every single Palm Pre shipped since June 2009.

Even though Palm admits to using the software, as is evidenced by their own documentation of muPDF’s inclusion in the PDF app as the sole rendering engine for the viewer, they did not obtain a proper license or comply with the terms of the GPL. And as such, as stated within the press release located on Artifex’s website:

Palm’s intentional refusal to comply with the terms of the GPL means that Palm willfully copied and distributed muPDF without authorization, and any and all such copies infringe Artifex’s exclusive copyright.

Miles Jones, the president of Artifex Software says because so many different companies actually legally pay for licensing under normal circumstances…

muPDF is an outstanding technical choice for a lightweight, high-performance PDF renderer. Artifex makes the choice simple for those who copy Artifex software for distribution: Comply with the terms of the GPL, sign an OEM license agreement with Artifex, or do not distribute our software. We have an obligation to protect our copyrights for ourselves, for our customers, and for every member of the open source community.”

The Civil Suit with Sprint
Palm and Sprint/Nextel are being sued by Jason Standiford, from San Francisco in the United States District Court of Northern California, as he alleges they caused him to lose most of his personal and private data from his phone after its replacement. Jason is hoping to turn this into a civil suit, as apparently this is not the only case of data loss happening.

Since November, Palm and Sprint have said they “are trying to solve problems some users have had moving data from one Palm webOS device to another, a task that has caused some to lose contacts and calendar entries, according to blogs and online user comments.” The statement refers to the customers having been writing many comments in response to a post on Pre Central, a site dedicated to Palm Pre, as to the depth of the data loss.

What is supposed to happen is the users are supposed to be able to back up all of their data on the Palm Profile, a cloud based, password protected web page, where it is stored, as well as a copy stored on the Palm servers, and when the user needs to reboot or replace the webOS service, they are supposed to use synchronization to recover their data to the new device. This, however, is sadly not the case Jason’s Pre.

Jason has filed a civil suit stating he lost all but 4 contacts out of hundreds, all but 3 memos and lost his bookmarks completely. Ironically, two of the numbers recovered after synchronizing were Sprint Customer Service numbers. The other two numbers recovered were recently added to the cloud profile. The suit alleges that when he returned to the store:

Returning to the Sprint store the next day, he found they still had his old phone and asked them to restore the data stored on it, but the attempt failed and deleted all the data on that device.

Sprint later tried again to restore the data to the new phone and was able to produce some of it, but not all, the suit says.

The data on the defective Pre was the only backup of Standiford’s original information because Palm always overwrites the previous day’s backup, the suit alleges

The complaint itself names Palm, Sprint and 50 others, known as “Does,” as they are not known to the Plaintiff, and was files and certified as a class action lawsuit on behalf of all Palm Pre,Pixi and webOS users, and the group of people who have lost data in particular. The suit is asking for a monetary award.

And the Verdict Is?
When there is one in either of the two cases, we will be sure to let you know. But as of right now, I have to wonder. with what Palm did with syncing to the iTunes and iPhones and how Palm completely ignored the talking to they received as to leaving the syncing alone, and now with these law suits and what they re claiming…

What on Earth is Palm thinking? They don’t have to follow the law? Or they can just do whatever they want and get away with it? I know, with my very first post here on Youserbase, I applauded Palm for their actions as they stood up to Apple, but now I am left thinking maybe I was premature in my writings. It is one thing to playfully break a few rules, but it is another entirely to outright steal someone elses product and use it to make yours better!. Just pay for the license already! With as much money Palm is pulling in, why haven’t they bought one yet? Is it just an oversight, or did Palm steal it outright?

And as for the civil suit, because the technology is Palm’s alone, I think Sprint should not have been named in the suit, as they are only the vehicle in which the Palm Pre and Pixi are sold. They really have nothing to do with the Palm Profile, do they? Yet they did try to help recover the data that was lost.

Another list...Who needs it? With the holiday's coming, everyone does. This is a list of my favorite and best selling Palm Pre accessories.

Just In Time For the Holiday’s

As I promised, a list of the best of the best accessories for the Palm Pre. And just in time for the holiday’s too. With them right around the corner, it’s just about time to start thinking about what to get the person with the Pre.

#1-Touchstone
On my list is unanimous all around. It’s on every other lists in varying orders, and made it to the top of mine because it is the ONLY one to make it to all the others. Is it no surprise that the Touchstone is the number 1 accessory? I didn’t think so. EWireless charging that can go almost anywhere. This is the sccessory that has accessories too. There are different packages available like the Dual Location kit, the Car Kit, and teh Complete kit that comes with a wall charger too. Prices range from $19.99 for a new back plate to $109.95 for the largest kit that comes with everything included-The accessory with accessories!

#2-Vehicle Charger
This accessory made it to all of the above mentioned lists except one. And I understand why. The vehicle charger is a must because the Battery itself doesn’t hold very long. So you don’t want to get stuck, right? The Palm Car Charger for the Pre is a great one because not only does it charge quickly, even while using the phone, and it looks good. Prices range from $12095 to $19.95.

#3-Bluetooth Headset
Wireless hands free talking is a must these days and with stricter laws being passed everywhere, this is number 3 on the list. But the “best” one is up to you, the user. I can tell you the best selling one, but the best Bluetooth depends on what you need to get out of teh experience of using it. So then the best selling Bluetooth headsets, according to Palm Pre itself, are the Star Treck UFO, Planatronics Discovery 975, BlueAnt V1 Voice Controlled, Scala 700 and the Samsung WEP 200. Take your pick, any of them are good. Prices range from $34.05 to $119.95.

#4-Seidio Innocell Extended Battery
Yes, the Seidio Innocell 1350mAh Extended Battery for Palm Pre is on the list for obvious reasons. Even if it extends the lifeof teh battery for only an hour, it is still worth it. We can all use a little more juice sometimes. Price ranges from$40 to $50.

#5-A Protector Case
Again, this is one that is based on personal preference. It all depends what you want out of it. There are some that snap on the whole outside, some are made of leather, and some only protect the screen. The best selling ones, again according to Palm Pre, are Body Glove Faux Nylon Snap-on, Seidio Innocase Surface and their Holster too, Palm Leather Side Case along with many others. Me? I would just opt for a screen protector. Case prices range all over the map. From $9.95 to $39.95, depending on the style.

Where to Purchase?
Well, of course you can find all fo these accessories and more on teh Palm Pre Website. You can also find them in Best Buy. Also there are two other accessories online stores I like too. Boxwave.com and AccessoryGeeks.com. Happy Shopping!

Check back tomorrow for more of the latest in the mobile phone industry. And another list of the best accessories. I think I will do the iPhone this time. If any if our readers have any suggestions as what to review, or something you think needs to be talked about, feel free to leave a comment and I will see what I can do. Til then, happy phoning!

The holidays are coming. So what are you supposed to get anyone? Well just about everyone has a smartphone so why not some accessories to go along with it? And here is a great one. It's the top of my list anyway...

But First–It’s That Time of Year Again…

It’s The Holidays

Whatever your holiday may be, Kwanzaa, Christmas, Hanukkah and so on, it is just about the time to start your holiday shopping. I think that because almost everyone in the world has a Smartphone, Smartphone accessories would be a great place to start looking for the perfect gifts.

So from now until the middle of December, I will be throwing in some “Best Accessories” lists for a different Smartphone with every list. It will include what it is and how much it costs. Maybe I’ll even tell you where to find them.

Any Comments From the Peanut Gallery?
One thing though, there are so very many of them, I may not be able to get to them all. So if any of you out there have a unrequited need for me to include a phone that I haven’t already, leave a comment and let me know, and I will do my best to throw up a list for it. If not, them I will go on my merry little way and list the accessories for the most popular smartphones.

The Number one accessory Great for Any Phone-The POWERMAT
And anything with Bluetooth, any cell or smartphone, digital cameras and readers, hand-held games, MP3 Players, portable GPS, and possible even more things. If it is wireless, you might be able to charge it on the PowerMat!

That’s right. Reviewed by Network World in their October 19th Print Magazine, is a little tiny article on the PowerMat and now it’s starting to pop-up all over the Internet. And boy does this thing rock.

The Obvious Question-What’s the Deal?
Well, first of all it can charge up to 3 devices at the same time. And it also has a USB plug in the back to charge a fourth if needed. It is out of the way, recessed and apparently hard to reach. But who needs more than three trays anyway? Almost anyone I say. That is the first problem with the PowerMat. It should be larger with all the devices people own and need to charge these days, that should have been thought of from the start.

The places you set the devices down on the mat are called plates. Each plate has a LED light to let you know the device is charging properly. The lights can be customized to vary in intensity or turned off completely. It also has what they call “Audio Confirmation” and it uses a beep when the device is firmly seated in place and another, different sounding beep when the device is removed. But for those people who don’t like the sounds the audio can be turned off too. It also has a magnetic receiver to hold the device firmly in place so it charges properly.

For each device, you will need a special receiver so the mat will know how much power and how long to charge the device for. The RFID tags do this job and the PowerMat already have one for the iPhone, BlackBerry and Nintendo DS. There is a general adapter as well. A test done by Theinquirer.net used an iPod Nano4G and an HTC Magic and reports that …”

Charging both at the same time on the Powermat, the Nano was fully charged in around minutes and the Magic was done in about two hours, pretty much the exact same amount of time as charging them with dedicated chargers.

Here is a list of all available devices by the PowerMat-
Home & Office Mat
Portable Mat
Powercube
Dock for iPod and iPhone
iPhone Case
iPod Touch Case
BlackBerry Bold Battery Door
BlackBerry Curve 8300 Battery Door
BlackBerry Curve 8900 Battery Door
BlackBerry Pearl Battery Door
Nintendo DS Lite Back Panel
Nintendo DSi Back Panel

And the Verdict Is?
So Lets see if I got this right… The PowerMat will charge almost any wireless device all in one place. Meaning no looking for cords, or tripping on numerous plugged in cords as the only cord needing to be plugged in is that of the PowerMat itself. And it makes the Greenies happy by its automatic shut off and saving energy. That sounds like a winner to me. And there are so many different devices to choose from you are sure to find something to but the person who has everything…

And here’s the kicker… There just might be some more bands of the PowerMat on the way. Sony apparently has one in the works as I type. Maybe it will be finished for the holidays. I think it is bout time there is something like this on the market.

It can be bought online @ the PowerMat website or at any Best Buy and Target Stores. As for the price? The prices are oddly the same in wither store… between $29.99-$39.99 for the smaller receivers and devices and $99.99 for the home Mat and the Office Mat. I can see paying the prices for the smaller items, but $100 for the PowerMat itself? I would rather wait for a sale. Keep an eye out for Black Friday sales.. The prices are sure to go down a bit then(and you can put them on layaway too).

The Palm Pixi is finally going to be released on November 15th. But will it live up to the high standards of the Palm Pre?

But There’s A Catch Right?

Well Silly Of Course There Is

With all the smartphone fanatics all in a tizzy ever since the announcement of the coming Palm Pre cousin, the Palm Pixi in early September, speculation has been the name of the Palm game. Well, now we can all sit down and take a breather. Sprint and Palm announced today that the Pixi is finally officially going to be released on November 15th. But at the price of $99 there is bound to be a catch. And of course there is. It’s the “2 Year Contract-After Rebate Deal.” I ask everyone, “Is anyone else getting tired of having to be locked into a two year contract with Sprint (or anyone else for thatmatter) just to get a decent price?” I mean come on, doesn’t it get old after a while? Anyway, enough of my rant…

So What’s Under the Hood?

Well, it’s not about what it’s got, this time it’s probably going to be known for what it doesn’t have. So let me start there first. For starters, it doesn’t have WiFi. Really? No WiFi? Ok.. I guess we can manage. Well, it’s got a smaller camera then the Pre’s 3 megapixel. Which is actually kinda small in itself considering other 5 megapixel cameras out there. The Pixi only has a 2 megapixel camera, with the resolution at only 320×400, there’s not much that can be said about that.

And the Pixi loses 80 pixels in screen size too. Where the Palm has a half decent screen at 3.4, the Pixi only has a 2.63″ screen. I guess it had to make room for the non-sliding keyboard. That’s right, it’s an unprotected keyboard. But the upside to that is that the buttons are placed a little differently and because they are raised up a bit more, it makes for a bit more accuracy when it comes to texting and email. But we all really want to know is what kind of power doe it have? Well, I am going to have a problem answering that. Apparently when Sprint and Palm were asked that exact question about what kind of processor speed, Ram and app running capabilities, they pretty much declined to comment. So it makes me wonder, will the Pixi live up to the iPhone killer standards of the Palm Pre? I really don’t think so.

But What Does It Have?

Well, it does have the famous Web Os running the browser. Oh, and it still has all the other good stuff, like GPS and Bluetooth. And there is a new Facebook application too. The Pixi is a bit lighter and smaller than the Pre, so it makes it easy to handle too. But that’s about all it has, aside form the rubberized backing to make the texting and email a little easier to hold on to. And that would be the end of the list.

So What’s The Verdict?

Well, if you are still in high school, or if for whatever other reason your first priority might be texting and email, this phone is a keeper. But if you live in the real world, get the Pre. It seems to be a better deal anyway and comes with all the features and power the Pixi doesn’t seem to have. And it’s a whole $20 cheaper at Wal-Mart.

With the up and coming roll out of the new Motorola Droid Android 2.0 Smartphone, are Verizon, Motorola and Google looking to knock Apple's iphone off its high horse?

With the New Motorola Droid Attack?

What’s The Deal?
It is being said that this is the first phone (aside form the Palm Pre) that has any significant possibility to over take the iPhone. And with the recent targeted attacks from Verizon against Apple and the recently “leaked” photos of the new Android based Smartphone itself, the iPhone just might want to run for the hills.

What Is So Great About the Motorola Droid Smartphone?
Well, for starters, this deal is a three way team up between Google, Verizon and Motorola. Some of the biggest names in the mobile phone industry. And all three have taking down Apple’s iPhone clear in their line of sight. Verizon has launched DroidDoes.com, a targeted campaign on the offensive against everything that the iPhone doesn’t do. According to Engadget, in a new commercial that was recently aired,

Verizon once again goes with similar iPhone themes (music and font in this case) to attack all of the things that the AT&T/iPhone can’t do or doesn’t physically have. Some of the gems in the commercial include “iDon’t have a real keyboard”, “iDon’t run simultaneous apps”, “iDon’t allow open development”, and “iDon’t have interchangeable batteries”.

Also in the recent past, AT&T customers were apparently pining for a merger of Verizon and iPhone. This is because of the dropped phone rates being at up to 30% with the AT&T service. Unfortunately, the FCC is stating that this amount of dropped calls is “normal.” Normal, maybe, but good enough for iPhone customers paying a hefty sum for the services? I don’t think so.
Some Of The Touted Features of the New Verizon Motorola Droid Smartphone
Well. there are so many features that it has, but only room for so much. So here is a list of the few main features-it’s major selling points against the iPhone. What the iPhone Doesn’t have:

     1) A full pull out QWERTY keyboard AND a full Touchscreen Keyboard
2) A new Maps Application
3) A 5 megapixel camera WITH flash
4) Native sync support with Exchange and Facebook
5) A full UI makeover
6) 800×640 screen resolution
7) Support for running multiple apps at once
And the Best Feature of All:
8)The first smartphone ever with GOOGLE ANDROID 2.0!

In other words, just like the commercial said, everything that iPhone doesn’t do, Droid Does!

So What Is Going To Happen Now?
Well, through all the targeted attacks at iPhone, the commercials, website, and the like, it wouldn’t seem that a Verizon service with the iPhone would seem likely. But as stated on DailyTech.com, “stranger things have happened.”
And The Verdict Is?
Run iphone…RUN!! Verizon Motorola and Google are coming to get you! And I really don’t think they could’ve picked a better time to roll out the phone either… Right before the holiday season and just when all the controversy over the Google Voice app getting rejected was heating up… SLAM! Right back at ‘cha Apple! that’s what you get for making Google mad. They team up with Apple’s biggest competitors and give it all they’ve got. And lets not forget about the Palm Pre making its own waves against Apple in the recent past… Good luck Apple, you are going to need it this season…

A knockoff has finally been revealed for the Palm Pre. According to rumors, it might actualt be better than the original.

No one ever thinks that a knock off would even come close to the real thing. Especially when it comes to cell phones or smartphones. But I’ve gotta say this… The recent unveiling of the Palm Pre knock off, seemingly simply named “iphone+qwerty”, goes to show that not all knock offs are equal. While the Palm Pre has all the standard features of a smartphone, such as a digital camera, microUSB port and touchscreen, all which make it a great competitor to the market monopolizing iPhone.

So What Does the Knock Off Have That the Pre Doesn’t?

Well, it does have everything that the Palm has. That includes using almost the same kind of hardware. The operating systems are similar as well. And the prices of the knock off, although it is somewhat cheaper than the Pre, are still close (depending where you buy the Pre they can run anywhere from $99USD-$299USD) with the knock off costing a meager $88USD. So what is it then that the knock off is sporting that the Pre doesn’t? Well, according to rumors from PMP Today, it has a television, that’s what. Although it’s just a plain old analog TV, it’s a TV nonetheless. And the Palm Pre doesn’t have one. Go figure…The Chinese thought of it first. For one of the best iPhone competitors NOT to have thought of including a TV as one of its features, the Pre seems to be slacking.

What’s The Verdict?
If you are looking for the upper class prestige that the Palm Pre affords to those who can afford it, then the Palm Pre is for you. User ratings have shown that business people love it and it is a great media phone. And being one of the only worthy iPhone competitors on the market, it is definitely worth its price. But Move over Pre… There’s a knock off in town, the Chinese made “iphone+qwerty”. And it might just be worth more than the original for less.

Palm Pre or iPhone? With the recent controversy surrounding the USB Forum decision, the Pre just might deserve to win the battle, if not the war.

The Palm Pre VS. the iPhone. They are almost exactly the same in almost every way. The only difference between them worth mentioning is the Palm Pre’s app abilities. With the iPhone, you need to shut down whatever app you are using to open another one. But with the Pre, this is no longer necessary. You want to check your email while you have a game paused? Go for it. You won’t lose all of those precious points you have spent so many minutes getting… Finally a smartphone that understands.

And Speaking Of understanding…
I must say that I rather like fact that the Palm Pre understands the frustration of the masses and the way that the Palm Pre is smashing the iPhone. I am not saying that Apple deserves it, I just think that Palm Pre is not afraid to haggle with the competition, especially when it comes to breaking the rules. With the recent decision handed down form the USB Forum about the way the Palm Pre uses its “work around” to get around the iTunes USB sync problem, you would think that the Palm Pre would just give up. But no, they instead decide to update their OS so that they may use Apple’s Vendor ID once again to “work around” the USB sync. While it may be wrong to do so, it is definitely what needs to be done. The way that Apple has a monopoly on the music download world is just a few cards short of the Microsoft anti trust issue back in the 90′s. I think it is about time that there is a phone company that puts their money where their mouth is, and with all of the other smartphones out there, I am surprised that not one has tried this before.
