Microsoft Hinting at the Release of a WinMo Makeover?

6.5.3 Announcement Imminent @ Upcoming CES Keynote?

They Need This One Not to Fail
With the past releases of the Windows Mobile operating systems for their branded smartphones, Microsoft really needs the future release of WinMo, no mater what it is, to be perfect. Otherwise, I fear it will be the end of anything remotely Microsoft. The past failures of Microsoft were so complete and so catastrophically total, and I am including desktop and smartphone operating systems in the mix, that if this one does not have anything special, it might just be the last we will want to hear from them.

WinMo was a legacy in its own right, being as it was the first OS to make it onto a smartphones and 6.1 made headlines, deservingly so, and went on to partially make up for the complete and total failure of Vista. Imagine that, a smartphone was the redeeming quality of Microsoft-how ironic. 6.1 had what they needed it to have-almost perfect user interface, even better features, and more than anyone anticipated it to have. So, it’s not surprising that WinMo relied heavily on the reputation of 6.1 to market the new version, 6.5, when its release neared. And everyone got hyped up for the new and improved WinMo 6.5 too. All the big smartphone manufacturers eagerly awaited WinMo’s release, they even held off on the release of some smartphones just so they could be the first with WinMo 6.5 on them…

The Unthinkable Happened
And then it happened. Smartphone OS Acute Death. The complete and utter failure of WInMo 6.5. Before it even materialized at all. Some even say it makes Windows Vista look angelic. Amazing. Apparently something went so completely wrong with the technical aspects of the update that it actually looks they forgot to update anything at all! According to some, who have hands on experience with 6.5, the only thing that look like it was changed was the name. Everything else stayed the same. Minor updates to the UI and a name change. Yup! That’s what you call a major half point release, uh-huh, for sure! Why didn’t they just wait for WinMo 7, instead of putting any energy into WInMo 6.5, they should have waited and actually done something right, like engineer an update worth something to the people.

Enter WinMo 6.5.3
Now, don’t get me wrong, I have always been one to give the benefit of the doubt-even where it doesn’t belong-but this time I can’t. It’s not that I am a Microsoft hater, or even that I don’t like Windows. It’s the fact that Microsoft is finished living off it’s reputation. Microsoft died when Bill Gates left and any humanity the company had left, well that left with him. Microsoft has to now actually do something interesting to win back the respect of the tech world. It has to actually update WinMo.

And apparently, as rumor has it, they have. WinMo 6.3.5 has been leaked in the MSDN Mobile Developer Center, with details of a touch tile instead of a soft key, and the rumors are starting to fly. And everyone is speculating the official announcement will be made at he CES Keynote, scheduled for January.

But just like with any good fairy tale, we are going to have to see where this one leads the people. I mean, what are we going to all get our hopes up for? WinMo has cried wolf too many times already and I honestly can’t even believe people still actually care about WinMo updates. Oh, that’s right… There are still people who use WinMo based phones. That’s a shame too, they are really nice phones…

Pantech-Catering to the Younger Generation?

Pantech Messaging Phones Are Alive & Kicking!

The Pantech P9020
Messaging phones have not been as hot as they once were. But apparently Pantech refuses to believe the craze is over-either that, or they are trying to spark it once again with their new FCC approved device. The Pantech P9020. Since it just cleared the FCC, there is not too much known about the device, except that it will be surely headed over to AT&T, since it will run on the GSM 850/1900 and WCDMA 850/1900 bands. It will also have some kind of WinMo on it, since Pantech offers “free upgrade” to the 6.1 version on their site for a “Better mobile experience” for the older models and the Matrix comes with 6.1.

The Usual Suspects
The other usual stuff? Well, for now, all anyone knows is that it will have a 2.0 megapixel cam, and of course a full QWERTY slider keyboard. The Touchscreen is a 2.8QVGA, but as of now resolution is unknown. It will accommodate Bluetooth, email and has a MicroSD slot too. But for any other specs, we’ll just have to wait and see, of course. There hasn’t even been any announcement of this one, just a few leaked pics and the FCC report.

And the Verdict Is?
I sincerely hope this phone gets rolling out the Pantech doors soon. It is a cute, if not practical phone and it just goes to show that messaging is not dead yet. Yeah, of course it was a craze for a while with all the new smartphones and the QWERTY keyboards made just for the txtrs of the bunch , but sadly, the catering has gone… Moved onto other user groups. I wonder what happened…

Were the parents of the txtrs not shelling out enough dough to keep the craze alive? Or did the companies finally figure out that if they are under 18 hey can’t legally sign a binding contract-meaning they could get out of any smartphone they wanted to… Think about that for a minute… technically, if they wanted to, anyone under 18 who signed a contract, well in the US anyway, can get out of that contract they wanted to. The law says it is not legally binding because a minor does not have the smarts to decide if they should sign it or not… Theoretically, anyway. I don’t suggest trying it, however, as you would probably just be causing trouble for nothing. But you never know… If anyone has done this, shoot me a line and let me know what happened. I would be interested to see…

Was Palm’s Web OS Update a Prelude to Something Bigger?

While Sprint Pushes the Pre Update, WiFi Clears the FCC on the Pixi

Palm Pre Sprint p100eww Update-webOS 1.3.5
The update range from fixes of incorrect conversation views to tweaks in fonts and messaging. However while the updates are many, there are two categories that were affected the most, the App Catalog and the System itself. It is in these two areas where most of the updating took place, so here is a rundown of some of the changes:

    App catalog:

  • Users can now download multiple applications at the same time.
  • Users can run the app download in the background if they are doing something else
  • Users can now download all available updates at one time (instead of one by one) at the tap of the Pre
  • The new improved search results are based on a tweaked algorithm
  • People living in US Territories can now purchase paid or apps.
  • Automatic resume of a download if it was interrupted by no fault of the user-IE if they go out of network
  • Full storage capacity is now accessible and downloaded apps are stored on the USB drive

The System:

  • Again, user can use full capacity of memory storage
  • In areas of poor network coverage, there is improved battery life
  • if user is using an app that supports landscape mode, notification is given is at the bottom of the screen
  • After a user logs into the Palm Profile, the apps downloaded from the App Catalog are restored i the background and the user can use other phone features during the restoration.
  • Now, if a user swiped a link to delete it, it will delete instead of open in the browser.

Of course, the update is free and is available on the Palm site for download, along with detailed instructions and complete details about all the changes, including those not listed here.

WiFi Certification Shows up on Database
Although everyone knew Palm would eventually make its way to Verizon, just because this WiFI Certificate is showing up on the WiFi Certified Database, doesn’t mean it’s headed to Verizon for sure. Or does it? Apparently, according to Engadget.com, the frequencies match those of Verizon and they are attached to the Pixi. Plus, the FCC filing for a CDMA/EVDO Palm, model number P121EWW. All signs lead to the WiFi Pixi in 2010. A Pixi with Bluetooth and all the rest of the Pixi features. This is making for a great first quarter for Verizon, that’s for sure.

And the Verdict Is?
Well, it took long enough, anyway. And just like the folks over at Engadget said, why on Earth would anyone want to scoop up a WiFiless Pixi from Sprint now knowing a better one is on the way-from a better carrier altogether? Verizon is taking over for real this coming year. With the preparations for all these different phones-including the iPhone-watch and see if I am not right…

Android LG LS680 Handset-The Beginnings of WiMax?

Is This the CES 2010 Big Announcement?

It Is Certainly Looking That Way…
Apparently it is, or at least that what sources are speculating, anyway. Looking at the Boy Genius Report screenshot, I would have to agree as well. Ont eh shot, there is an entry for “LG LS680 Android Handset Kit” and then “$1.00″ to the right… So, there you have it, a brand new Droid on the market… But then again, something like that really isn’t big news anymore. With all of the new releases of Android flavored smartphones, I have the feeling people are going to become bored with them real soon.

What Makes This One Special?
Well, lets see… the only thing with this one, is that the BGR recently reported, along with all the other usual suspects that Sprint, Microsoft and LG were going to do something big. No, not big, but absolutely huge. You see, rumor has it that Microsoft is about to introduce a “WinMo WiMax” phone at this event.

It was originally speculated that Sprint would be releasing the first WinMo WiMax phone and it would be manufactured by LG. But now with this recent discovery of an Android based LG smartphone, those thoughts are now being questioned. So what could the three companies be up to?

And the Verdict Is
Well, it is really hard to say right now. But, if you want me honest opinion, I think it would be in the est interest of all parties involved to release two of them-one for WinMo and one for Android. But, of course that would never happen. SO the next best thing? An LG Phone with Android-that is a given, but how to use WinMo and WiMax together? Well, to be honest, the Android hardware would make a great base for WinMo, make it a bit snappier anyway. Windows anything tends to eat up system resources-and the same can be said about the mobile OS too, or so I have been told.

But I guess we’ll just have to wait and see when it finally comes time to unleash what ever it is they are hiding from us…

Who needs a Cell Phone Anymore? Smartpones Took Over-But What About the Hybrids?

Why Are the Hybrids Not More Popular & For That Matter, Who Will Even Need a Smartphone Anymore With Them Around?

XP Phone
The Evolution of the Little Talked About-But Much Wanted-Hybrid
With the rise of the smartphone, one thing is for sure, cell phones are almost coming to the phasing out stage. Maybe not within the next year, or even two years, but I would have to say that by the end of three years-at absolute most-the regular cell phone will be rendered useless, if not obsolete.

Think about this… The Smartphone has taken a little bit to catch on and was once a thing for corporate businessmen, such as is the Blackberry once was, the rich and/or upper class and the like, right? Well, these days, and especially over the course of 2009, the smartphone has become the most talked about and newly “needed” item and (almost) everyone has one. And those who do not, either have the cell pone/netbook/laptop combination or they have plans to get a smartphone. It was the tech talk of 2009 and it brings me to a really simple question. What then of the up and coming hybrids? The so called “XP Phone” gadget type thing that we hear so little about? And what about the newer one, the HDPC? Where are these little things going to come into play? Here’s a thought for you…

The “XP Phone” and Why We Heard Almost Nothing About IT
You would think a gadget that acts like a computer and makes calls like a cell phone would make the news a bit more. Oh yeah, that’s right-it did. The Smartphone, right? Wrong. There is this thing called the XP Phone that almost no one talked about in the beginning of December, but has actually been around for a while. The XP Phone has features just like a regular PC, or a netbook if you will and a cell phone together. And the XP Phone is not the only one around or available, either, but more on that in a bit.

The XP Phone is from China’s In Technology Group and is not available here in the US, of course just like any good phone anymore, but it is apparently, according to some sources on the internet, available for the AT&T, Vodafone and Orange carriers with optional 3G status on pre-order, still as yet unpriced. There is an order form on the newly minted English version of the site that takes your information and after you input your info, and any remarks you might have and the color and carrier of choice, click submit and it tells you to wait a few seconds to continue ordering. It then states that the “Booking Order is Confirmed” after it successfully processes your info and that’s it. The only personal info it asks for is your name address and phone number, no billing info or credit card to hold the order. I think it may be possible they are just testing the waters to see how many people might actually purchase it, as there is no price or release date… I entered my info the other day, and as of now all I haven’t even gotten an email saying my info was received. No harassing phone calls, no marketers-nothing at all. Very strange for a pre-order system. On most sites, they at least send you a confirmation email. I will keep you all posted on the situation and any new news (or no news).

Ok, so, now for the features… The biggest is that is has both solid state and standard hard disks built in, for the power saving features, a super CPU called the “AMD Super Mobile CPU,” and so much more. Here are the specific specs of this power gadget in a little package, VIA Pocketables.net:

  • • CPU: AMD Super Mobile CPU
  • • Memory: 512M/1G
  • • SSD: 8G/16G/32G/64G
  • • HDD: 30G/60G/80G/120G
  • • LCD: 4.8′ TFT Touch-screen LCD 800*480
  • • Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP
  • • Network: GSM/GPRS/EDGE/WCDMA (HSDPA/HSUPA)
  • • CDMA/CDMA2000 1X/CDMA1X EVDO,TD-SCDMA,TD-HSDPA
  • • Wireless: WiFi 802.11b/g,WiMax(optional),Buletooth,Stand-alone GPS
  • • Camera Specifications:CMOS, 300k/1.3 Million
  • • Ports: 1 x earphone jack, 1 x microphone jack,Docking Connector (includes VGA output signal ), 1 x USB 2.0, SIM Slot
  • • Battery: Removable Lithium-ion
  • • Talk time: about 5 hours,Stand by time: about 5 days
  • • Real life: about 7 hours(Standard), about 12 hours(Large)
  • • Talk time: Standby time,Operation time may vary depending different usage.
  • • Weight: 400g (include battery)

So there you have it. A computer and a cell phone in one. So why is it then, if it has everything everyone could ever want or need all in one device, is it not more popular? And why is it that it has not yet caught on in other countries or made available for export anywhere? We’ll get to that in a minute, but first, I’ve got another one for you. Same concept, different name.

The Hybrid Portable Dual Computer
This hybrid is very much like the XP Phone. It is almost the same size and shape, color and what have you, but it has a different name. There is not really much to go on once you are on the site, unless of course you can read their language that is. I am assuming it is Korean, but please correct me if I am wrong, as the group, called Mobile Intelligent Ubiquitous Technologies, is based in Seoul, Korea. The only page in English, really is the product page for the hybrid and any other link I click on sends me to a 404 error page. The only info on the site about the actual device is this photo-describing what the device is:

I have, however managed to find some info about it on the Internet, of course, so here’s what I’ve got:It has all the normal functions of a PC and a cell phone plus a video camera, TV and radio-all digital of course and a 3 megapixel camera. But other than that, your guess is as good as mine.

The biggest attraction to the device I think will be the features available for the price and weight. Think about this, it weighs a little over 3/4 a pound, slightly more than 400 grams and has everything a PC and a cell phone and more. Who wouldn’t want one of these? And apparently, according to some sources, it is going to be priced around $500 USD, more or less, making it a bit less expensive than other regular smartphones on the market.

Which Brings Me To My Original Question…
Why the hell on Earth is no one talking about these devices? I just do not get it. The “XP Phone” is touted as a fully featured smartphone with laptop/PC capabilities and the HDPC is touted as a laptop/PC with fully featured Smartphone capabilities. What’s the difference and why are companies not taking more aggressive action to market it or make it their own? I will tell you why, at least the reason I think we don’t hear more of it. First of all, if something like these devices were to get out on the mainstream market, it would be the death of the smartphone, netbook, laptop all at once. A device that does all of the above-and more-in the palm of your hand, weighing less than one pound and costing less than a smartphone that is unsubsidized. All the other carriers and manufacturers would go out of business.

The other take is for whatever reason, no one wants to know about it. Think about this-why is the netbook not more popular? Because no one wants something so small when they can have a regular sized laptop or a PC even that does the same thing cheaper. For less cost than a netbook, they get the whole package of the laptop or PC and it is fully featured. Whereas some netbooks have a watered down OS because of the processing power involved-there is almost none on some models.

And the Verdict Is
Well, to be honest, I put in my “Pre-order” and I am hoping that something materializes from it. I sincerely hope the hybrids and the XP Phone will make it. They have everything anyone could ever want form a mobile device. It is mobile computing and a phone and everything else anyone could ever need in one package. Isn’t that what everyone has been waiting for all these years? Yet when we are finally hit with it, it gets ignored like no one ever thought about it. But it is here, and I am hoping it will be to stay. I will keep you all posted on the pre-order situation and let you know how that turns out.

Motorola Is At it Again- The Opus and the Backflip

Two Great Leaks, One Great Company

The Motorola Leaked-Specs and Photos
According to the Boy Genius Report, the Motorola Opus is leaking some specs and hey have the photos to prove it. And they state: The features on the device are actually pretty reasonable, and we’d imagine it to sell for a reasonable attractive price-point at release.” So, why don’t we take a look at what it’s got…
BGR-Motorola Opus
The Rundown of the Opus Specs-The Important Stuff
According to the BGR, the Motorola Opus will be launching only with Android 1.5, but with a Zeus Processor and has many other cool features to make up for it Read on:

First, it comes with a spruced up camera. 5 megapixel to be exact with auto focus and LED flash and then, pair that with the 3.1 hVGA 220×480 resolution capacitive touchscreen display, and you’ve got a decent camera. It also has the usual stuff, the A-GPS, Bluetooth and WiFi support, along with a microSD card slot, an accelerometer
and a 2.5mm headphone jack. The internal memory will consist of 512 MB Flash and 256 Ram, so that’s not too bad, I suppose. It’s actually a sweet little phone for those who aren’t power users, or looking for something more “Droid Like.”

The Motorola “Backflip”Backflip-Front
The Motorola MB300 Backflip/Enzo, has leaked and, according to Phandroi is apparently going to make history as the first Android Phone with AT&T. It is much like the Motorola CLIQ, reports say, and as such comes with the usual specs, such as the 3.1 hVGA Capacitive Touchscreen Display, the 528 Mhz CPU, WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth, etc., etc., and only comes with Google Maps, although Android Market will apparently be supported.

Now Here Is Where it Gets Weird-And Its Name
Now apparently it also comes with a 5 megapixel camera with auto focus and a LED Flash. But according to the pics and to the reports, where is it going to go? You see, the QWERTY keyboard is physical and located on he back of the deice, while the touchscreen is on the front. So, again I ask, where is a camera going to go?
Backflip-Back
Here’s where. The camera is where it is supposed to be, it’s the keyboard that is strange in its placement. It is on top of the camera. The keyboard flips up, exposing the camera an then everything is kosher again. And apparently there is also a touchscreen on the back too, to make for better scrolling and such.
flip-Open
And the Verdict Is?
Well, I will say this, this is what I think everyone was hoping the Droid was going to be like. The Droid touted itself as a phone that “Does” But the thing it didn’t do is what the Backflip will do. It is everyone’s dream phone come to life in one single package, finally. I think that once people get over the way it looks, thy will go after it like there is no other phone available. Unless, of course, they don’t want AT&T-And most people don’t. I am seriously hoping it is not exclusive like the iPhone was. Because then people will ahve a great phone with really… Well, you know.

The Opus is a cute little phone. It will be a great phone for first timers or for those looking for a lightweight smartphone. It will do well, and apparently it will have a decent price, so o complaints here on that…

But it feels almost like there is something missing from it, do you know what I mean?

Do You Believe the Cell Phone Cancer Scare? Now There’s A Phone Case To Save Your Life Too!

For Those Who Believe in Fairy Tales

A Cell Phone Case Stands Between You and Cancer
Would you believe it?> Not a few days after claims that cell phones cause cancer come out into the public arena, a cell phone case claiming to protect you from teh radiation that causes the cancer come out right along side of it. Coincidence? I don’t know, but I will find out. But, here is the thing, this company has been researching the subject fro a very long time and they seem to be the only ones with hard evidence that their particular products actually Do reduce the radiation from the cell phones. So, here is the story.

Here’s the Deal on the Cell Phone Case
According to reports, Pong Research is claiming that a cell phone case they make for the iPhone can deflect, a least partially, some of the radiation coming from a cell phone and being absorbed by a human head. They claim that the case can “redirect” up to 60% of the Standard Absorption Rate of radiation from the phone into the air, or at least away from our heads, anyway.

According to Pong’s research website they claim they are the first to scientifically prove their cases can reduce radiation, saying :

Pong is the first product to meet international testing standards for SAR reduction and has been verified by industry leading laboratory Cetecom to reduce SAR for the iPhone 3GS in the WCDMA 1900 by over 60%.

PongResearch.com

And while, yes, their research may show these things, it it even needed? Or is the product just a response to a scare tactic trying to be made ito law my a Legislator in Maine? Or maybe, call me a conspiracy theorist, I know, but just maybe, the Law got wind of the report and got scared. Either way, the report remains true so far. That, YES these cases reduce radiation and YES it is scientifically proven.

So Tell Us About the Case Then
Here are some facts direct form the Pong Research Webpage:

  • Radiation is a form of energy. Your cell phone antenna emits powerful radiation in order to send and receive signals to and from the wireless network. The hazard is that the antenna also radiates its energy into your headspace.
  • Pong uses a patented physics-based solution to redirect the flow of this energy.
  • Through the proven science of passive antenna coupling, Pong channels the radiation through its laddered ‘chimney’ up and away from your head. Full signal strength is maintained, so your phone’s function and battery life are not compromised.
  • Once redirected, the harmful radiation quickly dissipates and poses no threat to you or those around you.
  • PongResearch.com

And here is what they say the Pong Case does:

  • Antenna – the Source of Radiation-Without Pong, your cell phone antenna emits radiation in all directions, both to the outside and toward your head.
  • Transfer of Energy-The Pong technology module, optimally aligned with the phone’s internal antenna, attracts the radiative energy. The Pong Effect occurs as a pure energy transfer with no distortion due to the properties of the module material and microwave-tuned antenna design.
  • Chimney Effect-The unique “ladder” configuration of the Pong module moves the signal and its hazardous radiation through the Pong case like a chimney, and away from the user.
  • Full Signal Strength-The Pong module redirects cell phone radiation while maintaining full signal strength. You may find that your communication efficiency actually improves with the use of the Pong case.
  • And The Verdict Is?
I guess if you believe what they are saying, as many people do, buying a Pong iPhone case might just be the best hing you ever did. And if you believe the recent hype over cell phones causing cancer, then this is going to be your new best friend. And if you are going to buy this case at almost $60, then you better be a big believer and just as scared as the Law Lady up in Maine. But I will say this…

Although I do not personally believe in the “cell phones cause cancer” scare, I do believe that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and if they want to buy a case that scientifically proves it can help stop radiation, than so be it. Merry Christmas and all that. But here is what I want to know, ha came first? The Chicken or the Egg? The Cell phone case, or the scare of Cell Phone cancer? Any takers?

And while I do not buy into the hype as quick as others, if someone can show me proof of a strong connection between the two, then I might just want to protect myself, but for now I must say no to a new $60 case.

And while I do not apologize for my attitude towards the subject of cell phone fairy tales, I do apologize to those who take it in a mean-spirited way as it is not meant to be as such. I am just asking the logical questions that I can’t find already answered, is all.

Warning-Cell Phones Causing Cancer? There is No Real Proof!

It’s Just Another Case of “Lets Play Scare the People”

Why All The Noise? Is There Any Proof?
So, if Maine wants the Law makers to issue a waring saying that cell phones are harmful and may cause cancer, they must have a whole bunch of research papers and scientists breathing down their backs to make them do it, right? I mean, if they want a law for it, it must be as bad as smoking a cigarette, right? WRONG!

What is really happening is, someone got a wind of something they thought they overheard someone telling someone else and thought they had a bright idea. Does that make sense? No, you are right, it doesn’t. And that is exactly how much a law like that will make sense if it gets passed while having absolutely no medical or scientific evidence to back it up. Please, allow me to explain…

Here’s the Deal…
A Democratic Legislator form Sanford, Ms. Andrea Boland, decided she didn’t feel right and gets scared using a cell phone so close to her head to talk, so she only uses speaker phone and will not hold a cell phone to her head, at all. And then, she decided that if she doesn’t feel right, is scared and thinks something wrong, maybe there is. So here is what she did. Because she has the power to do so, and because the US is big on public fright and terror(it’s what moves people to action ’round these parts) she decided to take a few “I heard reports saying it’ and the old “But, Dad, other countries are doing it’” ploy (because other countries do it) and went to the top guns in DC and asked them to hear a proposal about adding a permanent warning to the cell phones saying they are a cancer risk. Neat, isn’t it?

But that would be fine if there were actually something to warn against. You see, as of now, there is no actual, solid, provable scientific or medical evidence making the claims that cell phones are harmful. As a matter of fact, the FCC says “that all cell phones sold in the U.S. are safe, has set a standard for the “specific absorption rate” of radio frequency energy,” but they don’t make the companies say exactly how much.

So now, there is apparently a proposal set to be heard during the next discussions in January of 2010 about it. And the thing is the warning would be a permanent fixture to the phone, therefore taking away form the all important design. And not to mention, taking away people’s rights to choose as well, but more on that in a later post. You see , the warning would “require a permanent, non-removable advisory of risk in black type, except for the word “warning,” which would be large and in red letters. It would also include a color graphic of a child’s brain next to the warning,” according to reports. Really?

Yes really and apparently, according to the Associated Press, there are the same talks in San Francisco going on about the same thing, too. But the CTIA is fighting back, and with good cause. They say:

“With respect to the matter of health effects associated with wireless base stations and the use of wireless devices, CTIA and the wireless industry have always been guided by science, and the views of impartial health organizations. The peer-reviewed scientific evidence has overwhelmingly indicated that wireless devices do not pose a public health risk,” said CTIA’s John Walls.
**Emphasis added

And while, yes, there is no way to know about long term affects of what cell phones can do, all studies thus far have proved them to be safe. So why, then , all the up-play on the subject?

The Verdict Is…
The Verdict is that someone got scared. And fear is what moves people. And I am honestly surprised that something like this would come up as a serious discussion within the Legislature at all. I mean, there are so many more things, like microwaves, lighters, and coffee even, that cause more harm than a cell phone. every food that we eat that is not organic is sprayed with a harmful toxin that can cause cancer, just to keep it fresh. The Preventative mammograms that the government promotes and women get to detect cancer-cause cancer. Even the plastic bottles of water served in hospitals and the plastic tubing equipment used for giving IVs cause more harm than a cell phone. And that is stuff that’s been proven scientifically!

So why not get on the hospitals for serving the patients bottled water? Why not make a sign to put on the front of a hospital saying “We Serve Items and Administer Tests Known to Be Cancer Causing Substances To Our Patients” that is displayed prominently? Do you want to know why? Because it’s preposterous, that’s why. And it’s silly. Just as preposterous and silly it will look to scare the people about a cell phone causing brain cancer when there is NO PROOF! Neither scientifically or medically speaking. End of Subject.

For All You iPhone 3G, 3GS and 2nd Gen iPod Touch Users Out There Wishing You Had a Physical Keyboard-Now You Can…

Wired’s Gadget Lab Reports Bluetooth Keyboard Hack!

Finally, a Useful iPhone Hack!
That’s right folks! Finally a useful iPhone Hack in the world. Wired’s Gadget Lab has reported that someone has figured out a way to hack a physical Bluetooth keyboard to the iPhone 3G, 3GS and 2nd Gen iPod Touch. Now all you iPhone users out there wishing for a physical keyboard can now have one. Merry Christmas!

How Did They Do That?
Well, according to the Gadget Lab, the iPhones or iPod Touch must first be jailbroken, meaning they must be hacked in a way that will let the iPhone and iPod Touch run software it’s not supposed to. Unofficial software, which Apple strictly fights and guards against. And for good reason. It was only the hacked phones that contracted the first iPhone worms and viruses and only hacked or jailbroken phones are susceptible to them, making it very dangerous to add the Bluetooth keyboard. But for those who really want it, it just might be worth the sacrifice.

Wired’s Gadget Lab states in their report:

“The driver will be available “soon” in the Cydia store (the jailbreak App Store) and will allow you to pair and use an external Bluetooth keyboard with the phone, making it a very viable all-day computer. As long as you’re not writing huge articles, we guess.”

The Catch… Of Course There’s a Catch!
Apparently there is one catch, other than needing a jailbroken phone to do it with. It si only usable right now within a certain application, the “iPhone Bluetooth Keyboard Driver” application by itself for now. But, apparently there is a workaround available, supposedly to allow it to direct “the key press to any application” you want it to go to by installing the “Simulated Key Events Packages.” Wired’
s Gadget Lab promises to look out for and try it when it comes out, and I really hope they do.

And the Verdict Is?
Why doesn’t Apple make a physical keyboard to begin with? Are they trying to be different, or just difficult? With so many users hoping for a physical keyboard to be built in one day, you would think that Apple wold get the hint. Make a dam optional physical keyboard for the iPhone, right? I guess they just don’get it. Maybe this hack wuill get the iPhone to th point where Apple might just start listening. ANd besides, with the exclusive contract up, it might cause some other changes, like the addition of a keyboard. Stranger things have happened, that’s for sure!

Information obtained from Wired’s Gadget Lab.

Microsoft Has Done it Again-This Time Sending Blackberry Down in Flames?

Just Like the Sidekick Problems, Blackberry Repeats the T-Mobile History… Right After Signing With Microsoft

Is the Forced Bing on Blackberry Causing it to Go Down?
Remember when Microsoft screwed up T-Mobile and the Sidekick? Well, doesn’t it all of a sudden seem a little fishy that all of a sudden Verizon is pushing Microsoft’s Bing onto Blackberry users and now all of a sudden Blackberry’s everywhere go down? I honesty think it’s a bit screwy… There’s something here that is just not right, f you ask me. And no one seems to ask the right questions… Until now, that is.

Why is Blackberry all of a Sudden Experiencing Same Problems as T-Mobile Did?
It just seems a little suspicious to me. Back on October 14 2009, I reported the T-Mobile outage and he corresponding Microsoft involvement. This is what happened”

It was announced recently, or finally admitted, (depending on how you look at it) that T-Mobile’s data services have been interrupted for some time. The apparent explanation was that a Danger Microsoft server had gone down. Microsoft acquired Danger about a year ago and had teamed up with T-Mobile shortly after to deliver the data services to Sidekick users. It was announced yesterday that the server problems are probably due to sabotage within the Danger Microsoft company.

And it was also admitted by Microsoft that sabotage had taken place, as reported by the Apple Insider:

…“The sources point to longstanding management issues, a culture of “dogfooding” (to eradicate any vestiges of competitor’s technologies after an acquisition), and evidence that could suggest the failure was the result of a deliberate act of sabotage…”

And also said…

Microsoft’s Roz Ho launched an exploratory group to determine how the company could best reach the consumer smartphone market, identified Danger as a viable acquisition target, and then made a series of catastrophic mistakes that resulted in both the scuttling of any chance that Pink prototypes would ever appear, as well as allowing Danger’s existing datacenter to fail spectacularly, resulting in lost data across the board for T-Mobile’s Sidekick users.

Ok, so there is a connection and it was deliberate. Then it was never heard about again. Until now, that is.

The Verizon-Microsoft Connection
You see, now all of a sudden it was reported that Verizon has signed some kind of advertising contract with Microsoft for 5 years for a “Search & Advertising deal” connected to the Bing Search Engine. And then Verizon started rolling out forced updates the the Blackberry Storm II and a few other of their Smartphones. Users are NOT HAPPY about the “change” at all. Verizon reportedly “Changed the Verizon Wireless menu to “make Bing the default search engine.” This was reported on December 19 2009. The ad deal with Microsoft was reported on the 19th. And the outages took place on the 17th and 22 of December. Too close for comfort for me, that’s for sure.

History Repeats Itself Again
Just as the massive data outage started with T-Mobile’s Sidekick, it did the same with the Blackberry. On December 17 2009, all carriers of the Blackberry were affected by the massive outage. Then Wednesday the 22nd, messaging was affected on Verizon. Coincidence? I don’t think so. It is the EXACT same outages, with the same EXACT company in question, and the second outage was 3 days after the announced ad deal. What company is involved again? MICROSOFT.

And the Verdict Is? What Does This All Mean?
The Verdict? IMHO, I think Microsoft is at it again. What does all this mean? I predict that Microsoft will come up with some kind of excuse as to why this has happened. I have a feeling that it will be uncovered they had a part to play in the Blackberry outage, in some way shape or form as they did with T-Mobile’s Sidekick. It’s just too close for comfort, and I am honestly wondering why I am the only one seeing this. Conspiracy theory? Maybe… Truth? Most Likely. Microsoft has something under it’s wing that it is trying to release, and it started before T-Mobile, and is going on with more than just the Smartphone business. (I am limited to speaking of Smartphones at the time, or I would explain myself… Has anyone heard of Microsoft’s “forced Security suite” slipped in as a “critical update” to those who refuse to install it, Fore Front?).
