Will Samsung Mobile take over Nokia?

The mobile phone industry is always good for a surprise: About five years ago probably noone would have predicted the decline of Motorola. Nobody would seriuosly have predicted the rise of Apple or the complete disappreance of Siemens (well, you may put this eight years ago). But one thing still seems to be certain: The power of Nokia being the number one brand worldwide. But can they keep this position? We have listed the pros and cons about Samsung being the number one in the next five years.

Is any phone worth 600 Euros in 2009? Two thoughts

Well, this may quickly become a philosophical question. Or a financial question. Or however you may put it. But I am not talking Donald Trump or beggars, I am talking the average Western European customer. This is not a very new discussion, but it seems that what started with the Nokia 8800 (still have to say: beautiful but useless) is now becoming more and more general. Yes, phones learn to do more and more, but they also become more expensive year by year.

Samsung i7500 Galaxy – (p)review: Best Android until now

Hands on, preview, first look, however you may want to call it: I had a short look at the Samsung i7500, which is going to be published in Germany, France and many other coutries under the name of „Galaxy“. Please note two things: Neither did I have a full day to spend with the phone, nor did I get a final version. Nevertheless I have my impressions, and I would like to share them with you. If you can add your impressions or technical data, go ahead and edit the data sheet of the Samsung i7500 Galaxy. Thank you very much. So, lets have a look at it:

Android on a HTC Touch? Yes, it’s possible

I the past there used to be a competition to put the famous game Doom onto more or less everything: Even the iPod Touch has its own version as well as Tvs. This was (whyever) my first thought when I read this: Android runs on a HTC Touch. But in contrary to putting Linux on a toaster or Doom on an iPod this actually makes sense.

Palm developers, are you tired of new platforms?

According to Wired, the Palm Pre may be a great invention, but apps come slow to the App Catalogue. One week after the phone came to the market there are only about 30 apps in the wild. That is way less than Apple or even Android. So what is up, guys? Tired of new platforms? No believe in new operation systems? Too complicated?

Well, of course, the SDK may not yet be published (for whatever reason), but don’t your guys do some internal programming? There is loads of free source code out on the web. The future of smartphones does no longer depends on features only, it’s the apps. I don’t get it.

Samsung Jet S8000 quick review: What a fast phone!

In the past I used to write reviews of phones always in a certain way: First, the unboxing, than assembling, than functionality. Today I will do it in a different way, for two reasons: First, hardly anyone will judge a phone by the box (not even iPhone users), and second, I had the opportunity to get a preview model. Guys, this thing has been announced last week, so what do you expect? So, these are my impressions of the Samsung Jet S8000:

Chinese tourists: Welcome home to Germany

Do you know the reason for the success of McDonald’s restaurants worldwide? No, I am not talking the crappy food or low prices only, there is another important reason: They all look alike and have the same products. The key for success is: They all look more or less alike. Germany is now trying to attract tourists from China using the same method: They create an environment that makes them feel like home. Yesterday the German parliament introduced censorship of the internet. The first step to complete surveillance.

Prediction: Phones ten years from now

Usually whenever someone asks me about the phone industry in two years time, I start laughing. Why not 100 years? This industry moves so fast that nobody actually makes a quite safe six month prediction. Even the famous „phone trends this year“ will probably proof to be wrong.

So why not make some statements for 2019?

Who will be the brave one to give us real mobile OS choice ?

Operating systems for phones did not really play a major role in the past: Every company had another selfmade, more or less intuitive OS on their phones. Well, Java might have slowed down what happens now, but today the OS is becoming one of the central buying decisions besides the other features. But what happens? We still get not real choice. What do I mean by saying so? Let me explain.
